I think they are better off in the long run dropping numbers altogether, but any changes to the naming scheme are strictly about perception/marketing.
Anyone else think 2018's phone will be iPhone X2? Are we just starting the numbers over?
Wireless charging alone yes but this includes a physical design change too – glass back.TouchID of the 5S and the speed/memory improvements of the 6S are easily as important and noticeable changes as wireless charging.
I still think TouchID and the speed increase/doubled RAM were bigger additions. Glass is found in almost every smartphone body design these days, it's not unique or exciting anymore.Wireless charging alone yes but this includes a physical design change too – glass back.
Considering how powerful an impact well thought-out marketing language can have, I believe that to be part of the reason (remember Microsoft skipping Windows 9), all this in addition to 8 to being a lucky number in China, a fact not lost on Apple who have high hopes for that increasingly important market. And that last fact cannot be overstated in this important anniversary year with expectations running high for the upcoming OLED iPhone X.I think there is a good chance. Can't afford people to think in the future that a Galaxy S10 is better than the iPhone 9 just because 10 > 9 or that the Galaxy has been there longer.
Tomorrow will probably be my least productive day this week lol
For someone on this forum who cares enough, yeah I agree they were bigger additions. But to your average iPhone user, they care more about a design change.I still think TouchID and the speed increase/doubled RAM were bigger additions. I feel bad for people who will get the iPhone 8 (or 7s) with an anemic 2gb of ram,
they really should bring the 4.7" up to 3gb by now
