Anyone else think 2018's phone will be iPhone X2? Are we just starting the numbers over?

TouchID of the 5S and the speed/memory improvements of the 6S are easily as important and noticeable changes as wireless charging.
Wireless charging alone yes but this includes a physical design change too – glass back.

I still think TouchID and the speed increase/doubled RAM were bigger additions. Glass is found in almost every smartphone body design these days, it's not unique or exciting anymore.

I feel bad for people who will get the iPhone 8 (or 7s) with an anemic 2gb of ram,

they really should bring the 4.7" up to 3gb by now

I think there is a good chance. Can't afford people to think in the future that a Galaxy S10 is better than the iPhone 9 just because 10 > 9 or that the Galaxy has been there longer.
Considering how powerful an impact well thought-out marketing language can have, I believe that to be part of the reason (remember Microsoft skipping Windows 9), all this in addition to 8 to being a lucky number in China, a fact not lost on Apple who have high hopes for that increasingly important market. And that last fact cannot be overstated in this important anniversary year with expectations running high for the upcoming OLED iPhone X.

Apple will have a duo of iPhone 8's (while Samsung have their S8 and Note8) and I would not be surprised if the OLED iPhone X turned out to be named the iPhone 8X. In that case we'll have iPhone 8 / iPhone 8+ / iPhone 8X.

Tomorrow will probably be my least productive day this week lol

I hear ya on that. I just became a manager at my job and one of the things that popped in my head was "Oh sweet, I get to sit at my computer and watch the apple keynote and there's no one that can yell at me for it!" lol

For someone on this forum who cares enough, yeah I agree they were bigger additions. But to your average iPhone user, they care more about a design change.

The leaks show the design is mostly unchanged with obvious exception of the OLED iPhone.

But you’re right. A simple material swap would excite people more than more meaningful changes.

I agree it would be nicefor Apple to use uniformity across their iPhone lineup for the Ram. But then I believe they use this as leverage for those who purchased the larger model, receive the highest specifications. Which, It shouldn't always be like that.

I would have thought more than any year the S would have made more sense this time around. Having a new iPhone 8 and an iPhone X is confusing and a bit messy not having an iPhone 9.
If it were up to me it would have been the 7S, and the iPhone X (10 for 10th Anniversary) and then they could continue with an iPhone 8 next year, 8S, 9, 9S etc. By the time they got to the iPhone 10 and 10s the iPhone X would be 5 years old and it wouldn't be confusing that there was an iPhone X 5 years ago and now have an iPhone 10.

Look outside the box. The major competitor is the Galaxy series, and they are up to 8 now. Having finally caught up in numbers. If they continued an S every 2 years, they will fall behind.
