Better buy then an Apple TV.

And new they are around 206 on amazon ar the moment and that’s before the Black Friday sales.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B075CNJPFC/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1510598413&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=xbox+one+s&dpPl=1&dpID=41y9KHrgnUL&ref=plSrch

So not the £230 you claim.

You also have no idea what people’s buying habits are.

TBH I couldnt care less about the price of an Apple TV and don't know why we are discussing it in relation to the lack of sales of the Xbox ? I don't ever see anyone compare a streaming box with an Xbox or PS4 especially when a fire tv can be had for 80 pounds.....please enlighten me about why we are talking about this or do you think that the Xbox's main competitor is an Apple TV ? (Btw I just googled Xbox one in google and 229.99 was the first 500 gig one that came up for reference)

You brought up the streaming box, not me:

No stores in the uk bud although I think one is coming - You're comparing an Xbox to an Apple TV ? An xbox here is 230 pounds, show me one for 150 pounds and I will buy one now......? No-one over 30 has ever gone in to buy a streaming box and walked out with an Xbox, maybe a Roku or Fire TV (for 80 pounds) but an Xbox ?

Nintendo cared deeply as they learnt big time from their previous mistakes as even their boss Reggie admitted that

http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/09/technology/nintendo-switch-wii-u/index.html

And not sure why you are still claiming the argument for Xbox pricing, I mearly provided links to prove it is available at lower pricing.

Why? Because MS doesn't have to.

Walk into their store - the Xbox has been relegated to "the back of the store". In front on the left is MS MR and Gaming Desktop. Left center is Gaming Laptops. On the right is all the Surface PC's, and some "high-end" laptops (laptops costing just as much as MacBooks).

MS now sees the Xbox as an entry-level/media unit to PC gaming (hence when you buy their game download, you get a PC and the Xbox versions).

Black Friday Xbox One S's for around $150 this holiday is a great deal, a better deal than an AppleTV...

(I have an Xbox One S in the liviing room I got for $75 new at Gamestop after all the extra money in trades).

Nintendo doesn't care either - and look where they're at.

I didnt at all- See above - He randomly threw it into the argument as if the apple tv buyers and xbox buyers were major rivals for some random reason. I was just saying if you wanted a media unit you could get a 4k fire tv for 79.99...

The ONLY competition (till recently with the Switch) is Sony and I made a point of how Nintendo have bounced back from the disaster that was the Wii U to being the new wunderkind on the block with the Switch and I wondered if there were lessons there to be learnt for MS....Most observers seem to think most of the MS Xbox problems came from the original bodged marketing, always on connection, high price, Kinnect etc and that MS have been trying to regain ground ever since...

Microsoft stumbled out of the gate. They made some mistakes early and that gave way to a big lead for PS4, in my opinion. Plus, I think PS has always marketed the console better. They are just more cool about it, to tell you the truth. That classic "playstation" chime... it's definitely a better branded console, until recently that is... Xbox, in my opinion, delivered an unbelievable value in the Xbox One X and has done a great job marketing it. It's priced very well. A bargain, really. I think it will do very well.

I try not to get caught up in the console wars. I have always said that you should buy whatever console you like best or even buy both if you can afford it. I have always had Playstation, starting with PS1. Recently I've added an Xbox One S and the PS4 has since been gathering dust.

I really like the Xbox and cannot wait to play on the X. I will be donating or selling the PS4. There is just not enough time in the day to play both in my case and I've settled on the Xbox. I like it a lot more now after owning every generation of Playstation (including Vita).

If I was into the console war/fanboy thing maybe I would have never tried the Xbox and would now be missing out. It's bad enough that I have firm, and loud at times, political views. Gaming should be the ultimate unifying experience. Cross platform gaming is gaining steam, too. So, let's forget our day to day differences and have fun, right? :)

Anyway... you peeps can find me at Xbox @ Fantom Solace.

????

I love my XB1, can't play Halo on PS4....
What other Xbox exclusives do you play on your Xbox?

Also half the exclusives like Cuphead are all on Steam as well anyway so you don't even need an Xbox to play them.

There is Forza.

That said even when given the choice between PS4 and Xbox games I think I’ll be buying them on the Xbox from here on out because after looking at games on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X in my living room I believe that they look and play better on the Xbox.

Not to mention the elite Xbox on controller is nicely waited and darn near perfect. Plus while I might be a minority I like that the controller use AA batteries. I can charge them an pop in another set and keep playin without having to deal with a cable.

I understand $600 is a lot (GameStop sale for Xbox One x and elite controller package). The PS4 Pro is still very nice an osts $200 less or $100 less if you use the regular Xbox One controller. However the PS4 Pro is a compromise. It will never be as good.

This is without even taking into account how slow the online services are on the PlayStation compared to the Xbox. Games download faster and have less lag on Xbox. In games like call of duty, battlefront 2 and the division this makes the games go from a bad online experience to a playable experience where I live in Virginia. It might be acceptable for PlayStation if the service was still free but it’s not. Playing online with the playstationis no good where I live.

You know, the cost difference in the long-run is really negligible. I have the Elite controller and will tell that it is by far the best controller ever made. It's seriously awesome. It feels very premium and will go well with the X, but where it really shines is the insane level of customization and control you get. I have converted from being a lifelong Playstation gamer to now gaming exclusively on Xbox.

I think Microsoft really nailed the interface (again, I may be in the minority here) and the list of advantages for me is long. One of my favorite things is being able to remotely turn on the console and download a game while away. So, when I come back home everything is ready to go... Plus, no forced updates and if you do update the console it will automatically do so when not in use. You never find yourself waiting for an update as you do with PS4 and I really like that...

Microsoft might have blown it at launch, but I think Sony is blowing it now. The X is a much better machine than the PlayStation Pro. And when Sony started charging for online play too, they took away one of their competitive advantages. But the worst thing is that Playstation doesn't support 4K blu ray. Why the heck not at this point? Xbox does. Certainly the pro version of the Playstation 4 should have as well. But I guess Sony is hoping they can sell you a seperate blu ray player too and do a little double dipping.

I owned an Xbox, then the 360, and off and on the Xbox One S. Also in that timeframe was a ps3, and ps4. For me personally, just having my replaced my tv (cracked the screen of my 1080p set in a recent move) with 4K, Microsoft wins hands down. I am such a casual gamer (read: 2-3x a week) that I just have no desire to spend 400.00 to play games in 4K.

I found an excellent deal today on a One S with Halo 5, and the Master Chief Collection new in box for $220.00. I can download and run my previous purchases in 4K HDR without issue.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Horizon, and Uncharted 4 was like playing a movie. Simply a perfect game, maybe one of the best I have ever played. But why Sony has yet to add 4K in anything other that the “pro” console like MS has is beyond me.

Microsoft might have blown it at launch, but they have certainly corrected course and seem to be on the right path.

It’s late, I’m exhausted, I hope this post makes sense. If not, I’ll edit it in the morning.

Sony said they're not really serious about 4K until there's a certain number of households with 4K TV's.

Sony just recently introduced their 4K BR player (it is actually on sale this weekend for $150) and 4K TV's are really cheap and flying off shelves.

I'll try to find the link, but Sony said that they want the PS5 to come in at $400, hence a probably release in 2019.

They are "watching the response" to the Xbox One X at $499 and may release the PS5 in 2018 at that price point. They did say that it will be back-wards compatible with PS4 and PSVR (for the PS4) titles and headset.

Really, the PS4 was just a mid-gen to boost the PSVR and to make original and 1080p games (with the patch) better.

Yeah well, I've heard those kinds of claims before and the reality was different than the claim. Unless they are switching to a different business model where things are more about the platform a la iphone rather than the chipset and having to toss things out and start all over again.

But either way, such a move will likely anger anyone who is buying the pro now. Why bother? Seems like a total rip off if that timetable is correct.

Sony will have to make it PS4 compatible in order to compete at the current design of consoles.

If you can find a PS4 Pro for $349 (or get a great trade-in like I did for my PS4 a while ago), it is worth it if you are into PSVR or want better fps on older PS4 games or the ones with patches. Then you can hold off getting a PS5 until those are $400 (which will probably be Holiday 2019 or even Spring 2020 if it released in 2018).

I wanted to add one thing. PS4 is the last in the long history of Sony consoles. I wouldn’t say they won yet. The reality is that Xbox was a relatively late entry to the market. It’s amazing they are now in second place considering where we were when the original Xbox launched. Sega was failing and PlayStation 2 was surging. I believe Sony had more than 70% makershare then, but don’t quote me on it. The point is that the console market was theirs to lose.

So, if you look at the market share lost by Sony and the share gained by Xbox, the winner here is Xbox. They are in firm second place. Xbox One X and lower Xbox One S prices may help them surpass Sony sales this holiday season here in the US. Again, Microsoft will need more time to catch up.

"May help them surpass Sony sales this holiday season" is a fairly big marketing statement with a very big emphasis on THIS as they need to recoup, what 30 million to catch up with Sony ?

This race is pretty much done for this generation (although I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo catch up to MS in the next two years) in my opinion and it will be interesting to see what Sony and MS put out for their next-gen console...especially in light of the big N's latest offering.I love the way the niche keep going on about 4k HDR as a possible saviour for MS when really, as always (look at Nintendo) we should be talking about games and original IP and not tech - This is where they failed in my opinion, the clue is pretty much in their product title - Games console.

If you think the race is over for this generation, then I think you are calling it quits before the current generation is actually done racing. The Xbox One X is the latest entry. It literally just started shipping a month ago. If you recall what happened to Sega with the Dreamcast, things can change pretty quickly in the console world.

Microsoft doesn't need "saving" with the 4K HDR. They generate billions annually from the Xbox division. They are in a firm second place and improving. They are moving in the right direction. But those of us who enjoy the platform couldn't care less about any of it. The platform is successful, financially viable for Microsoft and supported by enough users to be important to developers. In fact, there are Xbox One X enhanced games being announced on the daily. By comparison, very few games at launch were enhanced for the PS4 Pro. The Xbox One X is expected to outsell PS4 Pro launch by a wide margin. Just google it to see analysts forecasts and GameStop CEO comments.

Anyway... Microsoft is hitting a stride and is not in need of saving. But the key point is that you should buy whatever console makes you happy. And you may even change your mind someday. I had every Playstation from day one. But lately it's the Xbox that has won me over. I'm a fan :)

I stand corrected - 70 million as of today sales - Sony themselves have stated they have sold 60 million on the 13th June this year and now 70 as of today - I think its over for this generation as the xbox won't sell anywhere near enough to topple the ps4 (they might stand a chance if Sony just stopped selling them completely today) before the ps5 is released in say 2-3 years time...I am not "dissing" MS or N I am just interested in why in pure sales figures (todays not some magical point in the future) both MS and N lost so badly...

2nd place was no real goal when N had handled the ball so badly with the Wii U.

Well, for one, Xbox didn't even exist when the Playstation was already on the market. Microsoft is one full generation behind in terms of entering the market. Two, Microsoft is the only American company that is playing in this field. Console gaming took off in Japan much easier and globally Sony has a huge lead and head start.

So, looking at the domestic market, it really is no surprise that Sony has a lead. The only other competitor at the time was Sega and they really mishandled the business. Plus, at the time, EA was one of the largest publishers and they stuck with Sony and could not come to agreement with Sega. So, Sega was disadvantaged from the start. They actually popped at first and then fizzled. Microsoft then entered the market as Sega exited.

There was a time when Sony was unchecked. They were the only game in town. Literally. Of course they ended up with a lion share of the marketshare. Again, Microsoft didn't lose out to Sony. They started well after Sony had already a firm control of the market. In fact, Xbox was created by the team responsible for developing the DirectX software. Sony started to encroach on the PC gaming market and these guys took notice, so they took spare parts and made DirectX Box.

Nintendo is another story. You are right. They made mistakes. But when you say Xbox lost, that's going to get some feathers raffled for sure :D:D:D. They didn't lose. They are just not done winning yet.

From Polygon today -

"Sony has sold 70 million units of PlayStation 4 hardware to date, according to its own internal estimates. We don’t have an accurate way to compare this sales information to Xbox One hardware, since Microsoft stopped sharing sales information back in 2015.

No one likes to come in second place, or even third now that the Nintendo Switch is doing so well, but the ongoing lack of sales information suggests that Microsoft knows it has lost this console generation, at least in terms of hardware sales.

The difference between the two companies is that Sony always knew what it was selling, while Microsoft is only now beginning to catch up in terms of brand identity. The good news is that the Xbox One X proves that the fight between the two gaming giants is far from over.

WHAT SONY DID RIGHT
The PlayStation 4 is a game console that was more powerful than the Xbox One at launch while also selling at a lower price. The focus was always on the games, and the ability to trade or loan your games to a friend at a time when Microsoft was pushing an innovative but poorly communicated system of digital rights and limitations.

That’s all it took. Sony knew what it was selling, it executed on that vision and was willing to take direct shots at Microsoft’s weak points. The strategy did massive damage, and the battle was over almost before it begun.

Microsoft wanted to sell a box that connected all aspects of your entertainment center while pulling everyone into a digital future while also ushering in a new era of motion controls with the Kinect. Raw power was less important than voice commands, and Microsoft believed that players would be willing to pay for this strange mixture of features.

There was no unifying vision behind the Xbox One, and the slow path to dropping all the features that helped the Xbox One differentiate itself from the PlayStation 4 was painful to watch.

Sony knew what the PlayStation 4 was, and knew what it should do. It was a gaming console that was designed to beat Microsoft. And it did.

Nintendo has the same advantage with the Switch: The company has released a complicated system with advantages that are easy to communicate, visually and instantly, with players. There is a vision behind the Nintendo Switch that allows Nintendo to operate in a market without much direct competition from Microsoft or Sony.

This is also why Sony is doing such a good job of owning the VR market. The PlayStation VR looks fun, it’s affordable and it has a good software library. It doesn’t make noise about changing the face of education or training surgeons. It has a clear goal, and executes it well.

Microsoft, in contrast, is pushing something it refers to as “mixed” reality and has partnered with a series of companies on a variety of VR headsets with little that set themselves apart from each other. That lack of vision is telling; Microsoft seems to be in VR only because it feels like it should be. Don’t expect sales information to be released anytime soon, nor a product that’s anything more than a development kit. Microsoft is unlikely to be competitive in VR within the next few years.

This is how Sony won, and why Nintendo is doing so well"

I can't disagree with much of that analysis and I did forget about the elephant in the room with MS, Xbox and VR especially as Sony have sold over over 2 million of its PSVR so far...Does anyone know why MS aren't doing VR on its new super-duper console ?

The only think I disagree is, though they don't like being 2nd, MS and Nintendo don't really care.

If you go to the MS Store, the Xbox is clearly just a means to hopefully lead people into PC Gaming (hence buying a download on Xbox One gets you a PC copy).

Nintendo is doing great on their own as they've always been (apart from the Wii U).

The heads at MS believe that VR belongs on a PC platform, not a console one. Though that can change with just a driver update to make MS MR headsets Xbox One X compatible (based upon my use of the PSVR on a regular PS4, the Xbox One OG/S isn't going to cut it).

Plus, a "turn-key" VR system is what will become popular, which is really only possible on a console.

Again, no one is arguing that Sony is ahead. Reasons for that being the case have been outlined. I just don't think the race is over. I don't really care if Sony is ahead. I am happy with the Xbox and like it a lot more (still have the PS4 and PS Vita, but don't use it anymore).

The whole "Sony won" narrative is structured to suggest Microsoft lost. That makes little sense. Xbox is a nearly $2 billion business for Microsoft. Toyota sold a lot more cars than a Porsche, but I don't think anyone is going to say Porsche lost. Let them do their thing. Xbox gaming business is big enough to support the platform, so I am happy with that.

The VR issue is interesting. Microsoft at some point said they didn't think they could do VR well on the Xbox yet. I agree. I returned the PSVR within a week of buying it. Visually it was awful and the tracking was pretty bad. Compared to the Rift that replaced the PSVR in our home, the difference in quality was noticeable.

On the other hand, Oculus partners with Microsoft early on. The used Xbox controller before the touch was available. They have an awesome xbox app on Oculus. So, that's surprising. Xbox is about as powerful as GTX 1070 and that card runs Oculus perfectly well. VR does seem like a missed opportunity for Microsoft, but then again, time will tell.
[doublepost=1512846863][/doublepost]
Sony also won just because it is not Microsoft.

This makes absolutely no sense. Sony has a market cap of $40 billion. Sony is less than 10% the size of Microsoft which has a valuations in excess of $500 billion.

You're right. Microsoft is such a loser...

That's what the PS4 Pro is for. It seems Sony made the Pro for PSVR and better fps in 1080p and oh, if you have a 4K TV, things will look a bit better.

Tracking and visuals were a lot better when I upgraded to the Pro.

Time will tell with Xbox One X with MS MR.

The size of the company is irrelevant. Many people will avoid Microsoft if they can. That's why Windows Phone failed.
