Behind you...!
I'm wirelessly streaming a 7GB mkv HD movie from a hard drive connected to my Airport Extreme.

It's set up to use wireless n 5GHz only. Wide channels or whatever is ticked.

I've tried playing it with Plex and VLC and it pauses every 10 seconds. I'm on my MBP not more than 10m from the base station.

What is the deal!?!?

It's probably not the Airport. This is a known issue with MKV files and VLC. If you google "VLC MKC stutter" you will find some suggestions. You might also want to check to see if you have the latest version of VLC.

You can also try adding Perian (perian.org). I use this and can now watch most movie types through quicktime.

Good luck!
