many factors
I think it is a combination of many factors.
..it's payday, that is true, but probably not a primary driver. I think it is actually pretty hard to buy a phone without a credit card, so the regular buyers aren't really waiting for CASH.
..from a society standpoint, it is the end of the week in most countries, and people can have their devices over the weekend to get acquainted with. Show up at the office Monday morning all happy and ready to evangelize.
..from a logistics standpoint, having things on a Monday is BAD.. most shippers are shipping, but not delivering at 100% on the weekends, so if a store really wants to have just in time delivery on Sunday, that would be a crapshoot, Saturday even would be a risk. Better to have things in the pipeline and tracking all week, deliver on Weds/Thurs and be ready to the melee to begin on Friday morning.
..Steve was also very much a work week person.. not that he didn't work on weekends or had the company working weekends, but doing things like having all your announcements on Tuesday, gave people Monday to finalize and finish last minute prep. If they did it on Mondays, that wouldn't work. Friday, is finality, people can have the big launch and have a few days off before having the re-enage with the next initiative..
Lots of things.
