Why does Apple only go as far as AppleCare?

Applecare is GREAT! But why doesn't apple offer on insurance plan that covers accidental damage? Or on-site repairs/fixes? These are things that I would purchase in a heartbeat if offered. So what gives?

Apple would probably lose a lot of money if they did that.

well they already charge a lot for their equipment. And it's not like it has to be a part of the applecare service. just an add on option for a couple hundred $.
