Why does iCloud email not sync?

Hi all

I’ve recently started using iCloud email and I find when I’ve read and deleted an email on my iPad, my iPhone will still show a notification bubble on the Mail app until either another new email comes in or I open the app and it updates. This is different to Exchange email where email is kept in sync across devices.

Does anyone know how to get my email to sync properly across devices so that read and delete statuses are also synced?

What do you have configured at Settings>Accounts & Passwords>Fetch New Data for the iCloud account?

iCloud is set to push. Inbox and sent items are the selected pushed mailboxes.

I don't use my iCloud email but in my own testing on my iPhone I have found the iCloud push NOT as effective as my Exchange account's push, also.
