Why does iTunes do this?

Why does iTunes put individual songs that are longer than 9:59 as "album only"?
I am nervous about Dream Theater's new release album will have a lot of "album only" songs because they are longer than 10 minutes. The best song that I see from them is "A Nightmare To Remember" which is an epic 14-17 minutes long. I love every song on their upcoming album but I don't have enough money to buy an entire album. I would like to buy the one song but I have doubts because of iTunes puts an "album only" on songs longer than 10 minutes.

    Why is that?

It's not Apple's choice to offer "Album Only" - it's the record companies..

Does Amazon have it for single purchase? If so, get it there.

not to sound like a jerk, but, you don't have ten bucks for an album that you know you'll love?

I have found that allot of times if a song is album only on iTunes, it is album only on Amazon as well.
