Ok so im trying to install windows media player ver. 7.1 for OSX on my friends brand new 800MHZ imac so he can view streaming video on only Windows media player sites. For some reason everytime we are about to view streaming video we get an error message. The error message says that he needs a plug-in called VIDEO/X/MS-ASF. We looked all over the web and couldnt find the plug and we even called Microsoft themselves and they still couldnt help us.

Has anyone run into the same issue and has anyone found the plug-in so we can view streaming video of the net.

System itself is 800MHZ imac 512 RAM, with IE 5.2, WMP 7.1 and OSX 10.2.3.

I know this is the place to turn, cuase you gusy are the best.

I've never been able to make Windows media player work. i know some people here have, but i think they're in the minority. even windows users don't get it to work sometimes... i could go on about how MS software sucks, but that would be redundant, don't you think?

if anyone has any solutions, i'd be glad to hear them, because some sites think WMP is somehow the new internet standard for streaming video :p

i've found that mplayerosx does a great job of playing most windows media files. unfortunately, it does not support streaming, which is a pain when you have to watch class lectures posted by professors who assume that there is no other os besides windows. i'm really hoping that people stard adopting mpeg4 as the defacto streaming format, real and wmp just don't cut it.
