Why does my battery level stop charging at 99%

when i plug the power cord in to charge my macbook it goes to the green light but only shows that it charged to 99%.

That is normal. It doesn't always charge to 100%.

that would seem strange. only rarely did it ever say 100% but why would it not sometimes. Does it have something to do with the battery?

It's to prevent overcharging.
