I have perfect wireless with my MB and a "g" airport extreme. Leopard
and Firefox or Safari make no difference.

I would bet you have router setup problems or interference from other
2.4 ghz devices/other networks. Try another wireless channel.

You should certainly try to figure out if there's a problem with your router or interference from other devices. I concluded that my macbook had issues because it happened at school and at my friend's house as well. If you conclude that it is a hardware problem then take it to an apple store; since its under warranty they should be able to fix it.:apple:

As for the youtube problem mine doesnt get to the point where the fan has to rev up. However, when watching some episodes from the nbc website the fan does come up at max speed after 10 minutes. Im not very concerned because my old pc did the same thing, the previous macbook did it too, and my friend's macbook gets even hotter.

Why is it that some Macbook's get hotter than others? I know there were problems with excessive thermal paste and sloppy construction on some MBs last year, but it seems the heat problems now are very variable.

I fully expected mine to get hot, but it rarely, if ever, does, and the fan does not have to come on much.

The thing is when I was in NY it did this, and now im in GA and its still doing it. But like I said my iPod touch can connect to it fine from the same locatioin when my MB cant.

I hate you, Apple. This is so horribly annoying. Everyday I can't use my wireless internet for about 30 min when I first turn on my computer until it just magically fixes itself. Same thing happens when I wake my computer from sleep (it's now set so that it never sleeps). What am I going to do when school starts again and I turn on my MacBook in class and internet doesn't work?

Electromagnetic Fields ?

I've been having a similar problem recently and I finally narrowed the problem down and resolved it. I had placed my external DVD burner near my Macbook. I realized that I was losing wireless connection when the burner was "revved up" ( playing cds or burning).
According to my internet provider any electrical devise can emit enough of an electromagnetic field to disrupt wireless connection.
Sure enough, I moved the burner some distance away and the disconnect problem vanished.
Just a thought, do you have anything electrical near your Mac. My provider said sometimes even lamps can reek havoc. And yes, normally I have a very strong, very fast, very reliable connection.

When im in the living room (and the routers like.. right in the other room... not that far), I have my Crapberry phone and iPod Touch next to my MacBook. The TV is a few feet away, but shouldnt be in the way of the signal to the router. When im in my room, I have a blue lamp, my Logitech Z-5500 system, iPod touch & classic and a fan near it, but the connections ok. I noticed that sometimes it does start to drop, but fixes itself in a few. Probably cause im closer to the router. When im right in front of it, I dont get this problem.

I went to the Apple store yesterday, and the guy turned it on, and connected to teh Apple store wireless, and the connection dropped immediately. So now I have to send in it. No biggie since college starts in a 2 weeks and he said it may take a week. But I got Apple care and everything. Problem is is that he said if its software problem, they'll wipe my HD without notice. So im going to test this with an older HD and see if its a software problem or not.

I've heard that wireless works great in Windows on a Macbook. Can anyone verify this?
Yes, it does but it has nothing really to do with this topic.

Anyways, I put in an old hard drive, went into the living room and the signal was dead. When I tried to connect, it said timeout, and when it finally did I only got 3/4 signal. So it's a hardware issue meaning I can swap my old HD when i send it in.

Definitely a hardware problem. I reinstalled Leopard from a 10.5.0 CD... wireless connection gave me a timeout error when I was going through the setup after install. Damn.

Hey I know this is a pretty old topic but I'm having the EXACT same problem. 2GHz CD MacBook, and my iPod Touch can connect to the router when the computer can't. It just started happening this week and I can't think of anything specific that would have caused it.

My question is, did you ever find out if it was a hardware problem or a software problem? I'm not under warranty (ugh) so I'm hoping that it's a software problem that could be fixed with a reinstall or something. I'm running 10.4.11 for the record.

Glad I found this thread. I'm having the same problem on my CD Blackbook. Wireless has been great up until about a month ago when I've experienced the same problems as everyone here. I almost bought a new airport card to fix it but I'm not sure if that's it. Can't even use the laptop now unless it's plugged in via ethernet

That was my problem, faulty airport card. Apple replaced it under Applecare.

Same problem as Krafty

My mac has the same problem as Krafty (as well as many others I'm sure) but the funny part with mine is that I can attempt to login to my next door neighbours router ok (but they obviously have a password). I know that my router isn't the problem as my mobile phone has WIFI and that logs on without a drama. I have fully reset the router just to be sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Mac specs are 2.4ghz 2GB Mac OS X 10.5.8

Yep, it was only about a month old. The genius didn't even try to replicate the problem in the store, they just replaced it.

Just joined the MacRumor forums to say this:

Exactly the same problem, took it to a genius on the 24th Dec, also didn't bother trying to replicate the issue and switched out the airport card on the spot. Worked like a charm until this morning, when at 4am the wireless dropped out AGAIN and I can't connect to my wireless network.

G4, iPhone, Windows box all work fine. Bought the Macbook in '07, since then applecare has replaced the logic board three times (bluetooth issues), now needs a new logic board cause... bluetooth issues! Oh, and the red headphone jack issue means I haven't had speakers since the last logic board was switched.

Not happy, Apple. I need a new computer, and upgrading to a macbook pro to start 2010 isn't looking like an appealing option.

Just out of curiosity, how many times do you have to get parts replaced under warranty till they give you a complete replacement?

Yeah, exactly the same issue. I can use an open network from a neighbour and attempt to connect to one with a password, but it times out on my own router. Works fine with an iPhone.

UPDATE: booked in for a genius app on monday.
