I've just synched my iTunes library to my iPhone for the first time since I downloaded iTunes onto a new laptop. Only some of my library has transferred to my iPhone, despite all song boxes being checked.

    * my iPhone was registered on my old laptop. Since I downloaded iTunes onto my new laptop I've imported my old iTunes library although when I tried to play some files I got an error 'iTunes cannot locate file...'

    * the songs I checked to transfer to my iPhone all play OK on my laptop in iTunes

    * only 500mb transferred to my iPhone, my iTunes library is 6gb.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Click on the iPhone in the iTunes sidebar, and go to the Music tab. Make sure it is set to Sync All Songs, not just a particular playlist.

    Thanks for your swift response.

I have selected all songs and didn't select playlists but still no joy.

My iTunes library is stored on an external hard drive (570gb) although something I downloaded today has ended up on my D drive. That has transferred and some of the ext hard drive stuff has as well.

    Very frustrating!

Also, lots of exclamation marks next to stuff that hasn't transferred - some of these tracks are playing in iTunes though.

Um, just throwing this out there, sometimes everyone misses the obvious, but have you clicked "only sync checked songs?" If you did, you may have the songs on the external unchecked.

Where can I find the option to sync only checked songs? it doesn't appear when I click 'Sarah's iphone' and then select music.

And oddly enough, I'm now finding that as I play the songs in my iTunes library that have the exclamation mark beside them, the mark is disappearing.

Am I correct to summise that the marks are there to tell me these tracks didn't transfer to my phone but that iTunes can still locate them?!

Every day's a school day, right?!

I believe the exclamation marks indicate that the files can be found by iTunes, but are not located in the itunes destination folder, therefore they cannot be synced, or they have moved from the folder they were orginally downloaded from.

Anyone care to correct me? I think thats right.

OK, I've had some degree of success. By playing the first few secs of each song with an exclamation mark beside it, I got rid of the mark.

I'm synching my library now and my iPhone is indicating that more tracks are transferring.

Jees, glad I had a day off today, this is pretty time consuming!

Thanks for all your assistance so far, hope I'm fixed now!
