Because apple is also a software company. And one making the second most succesfull OS in the world even. Camparing mac vs microsoft = OS X vs Windows = apple and apples.

A

Apple is a hardware company that makes their own software.

They are PRIMARILY a hardware company. They make their money off hardware, and then sell OS upgrades after that.

Apple's OS only runs on their hardware. Windows runs on all the other hardware manufacturers. Apple is a hardware company with their own OS- Microsoft is a software company selling the OS to the other companies. Get the difference?

How about OS X vs. Windows XP? I wonder what those numbers look like...

...did you miss my entire point?

Same numbers: Apple 3% and Windows 90%...
But like I said, that is not an accurate comparison, because Apple is a HARDWARE company. They don't sell OS X to everyone like Microsoft does.

45% increase yr on yr is nothing to sniff at. I'm pretty sure those ranking fourth and above didn't achieve that find of growth with bottom line returns to match. In those books Apple are close to no.1 (no link, no facts, just zealous-soaked opinion)

The strategy of Best over Biggest suits me personally, but I realise that for some people anything less than 100% market coverage is not enough.

Lack of Advertising - shame on you Apple

I still don't understand why Apple touts it's products and OS X without an aggressive Ad campaign. Ok, Mac users know the benefits that a Mac and OS X provides. However, the general public and the majority of computer users don't have a clue when it comes to the benefits that a Mac provides.

I think Apple has done a poor job of advertising and that has led to a low market share. Hopefully Apple takes a more aggressive approach to advertising their products. Overall, I'm not happy with the iPod commercials. All you hear is music and people dancing, what about advertising the features of the iPod. What about having an Ad campaign for switchers and featuring the Mac mini. How about showing how easy it is to switch. Show a person hooking up their exisiting monitor, mouse, and keyboard from their windows system.

I switched last year and I won't go back to a Windows system. If Apple took more initiative, they would have more people using their systems and software.

I wasn't debating your point  I was just curious. Do you have a link to the numbers you posted above?
