I have my later model 2010 MBP 13 with Lion 10.7.3 hooked up to a 23" ASUS using HDMI. Notice how the symbols of the apps turn to static.
Why is this.

I also noticed that I lose connection to my magic mouse every now and them, the computer is only about 2 feet away at max. This didn't start until I started using the Monitor.

I struggle using an HP monitor with my magic mouse. I don't know if its giving off some sort of static or what but I do see similar issues.

Mouse connection problems don't relate to the monitor usually. It is almost always due to battery issues. If it's below 10% it can start losing connection. If you aren't using the Apple rechargeable batteries, the connection often starts fluctuating when the battery level reaches 60%.

batteries are good, at 80%. I am more worried about the screen and why that is happening
