Why does Vodafone UK make me download a profile?

When I update iOS I get a text message from Vodafone UK with a link to download a new carrier profile. Why do they do this when I never got this from my previous network provider, Three UK?

Because different carriers have different settings and bandwidth optimisation. It’s not something generic across all networks. Ps three is a joke anyway.

That's usually done through carrier settings and something like a profile isn't involved.

Yeah true that. Although I think they use profiling to auto install the settings for mobile data servers, ports etc.

As another data point: EE doesn’t force you to download any profiles either.

Was on 3 for 6 years never had a problem with them.

I’m wondering if it’s related to their filter? I’m opted out though.
