Wow, you're right. 16gb and 32gb only available in my Apple Store app.
I guess they are not making any new ones and selling off the inventory that they have.
Interesting.

But Apple offer 128GB on the iPad Air 2 but not the original iPad (I think they did) but why don't they now?

Because they want you to buy the iPad Air 2 because it's the more expensive model. So apart from specs they will try and differentiate in other ways which will push you towards the more expensive model.

Because the iPad Air is the discounted "older" model. If you want 128GB, they're trying to push you into getting the flagship model.

They would have to offer a 128GB iPad Air cheaper than the iPad Air 2. If a user is buying the 128GB model, it is because they intentionally demand 128GB and will buy whatever model for which that size is offered.

Ahh. So if someone wants 128GB they have to get the flagship product. Crafty.
Do they do the same with the iPhone?

Yes the did the same with the 6 and 6 plus. You can still buy it but it's not available in 128 GB. If you want 128 GB you have to get the 6S or 6S plus.

Or buy the 128GB online or second hand to get a 6 with 128GB. That's the only way to get it from Apple. :(

The exact thing happened last year to me when I was buying my iPad mini. I wanted 128GB so had to buy the mini 3 rather than the mini 2 which was identical in terms of specs.

Get the Apple board to fire Tim Cook and appoint you in his place, then demand an answer from the only people who can actually answer the question...

That is how Apple is a valuable company as stated by jealous Forbes magazine.

I always buy the most storage memory available. But others have pointed out that you never get your money back on that extra memory on resale. Since I pass mine down to kids and friends I guess it doesn't matter for me. However, with iCloud storage maybe gobs of storage space aren't as important anymore.

So when the iPhone 7 comes out you won't be able to buy a 128GB 6S plus with 128GB storage?

I think that it's both to drive sales to the newer devices and to minimize the number of older devices they need to manage the supply of.

Also, people buying the largest capacities are generally less price conscious so are probably less likely to buy an older device.

I wouldn't mind a base iPhone 6 and a 6S Plus 128GB.

Upsell. It is always the same situation on iPhones and iPads - you do not get all colors and the higher storage capacities on previous years models.

This forces the person to buy the newest product if they want the most capacity.

What? first time i've ever read about this and my experience is the opposite as i've sold 3 iPad Mini's (3rd gen) two 16gb and a 64gb one, needless to say the 64gb model got me a decent amount more than the 16gb one's this despite the fact it was in comparatively rough shape.
