It has everything to do with marketing. They do 4 gig, 8gig, 16 gig, probably soon 32 gig, it's just another lame feature to throw on a box and people will drool for it.

I am not afraid to criticize apple eithier, cause i dont take no apple up my ass like some folks here, who think apple could do no wrong:rolleyes:

It's not that others are in love with Apple, it's they don't see the need to whine, get all worked up about everything they don't like about Apple and pretend they are smart enough to advise Apple on how to improve an already successful product. It's just a phone/PDA. People that get so worked up need to get a life that involves something more than thinking anonymous criticism on an Internet forum makes a difference or is a badge of courage.

There are plenty of design reasons to use soldered-in memory.

It costs money and space to include a socket. Not to mention a way to get to it.

No socket = less chance of a bad connection.

No socket = OS doesn't have to deal with people swapping cards. (This is a biggie.)

And, in this case, the flash being used is a lot less expensive than sd cards, because it doesnt' require a controller to make it look like a drive. And it has far fewer write cycles.

Thats what a micro SD card is used for :)

its just after see my roommates Storm with the upgradeable memory it got me thinking! Apple should give in and just use micro sd chips.
My roommate now has a 32GB Storm, which can be upgrade to 64GB after a firmware upgrade

Then go buy a Storm. No one is making you buy an iPhone...

It's to maintain synchronization (ratings, play counts, smart playlists, skip count, etc.) with your iTunes library. Without this, it's just another MP3 player.

No, but you're all right -- OMG!! Job$ just wantzz more moniessss. Only reason for this design !!! No other purpose!!:eek:

He's allowed to say it was neat that his roommate upgraded his memory without having to buy another model.

I suspect a lot of 4/8GB iPhone owners wish they could pop in more memory that easily.

However, there are reasons why Apple didn't do that. Adults discuss what's good and bad about any design, from phones to cars to houses.

Yup! All the sync info features that transfer back into the computer are all lost if you can simply change out your songs on whim. iTunes uses a database to keep all the track info and other stuff in order. This greatly depends on the music not disappearing or new stuff added in by some other means that's not iTunes.

Now I for one think that the OP isn't talking about REMOVABLE SD cards. I mean like a regular SD card that's inside, if you open your iPhone, VOIDED WARRANTY! That could be a lot easier, since SD cards are progressing faster than Flash Memory (or actually at the same pace), but still, if you have a SD card inside, you could put 2 16GB SD cards, and it'll be a 32GB iPhone. You can't do that with the flash memory (for whatever reason, because the iPod Touch can do it)

Probably because Apple wants you to own both an iPhone & an iPod ;)...That is what I had to do :D (See sig)

High capacity microSD is still very expensive... why do you want to remove the memory from your iPod anyway?

Apple will never allow user-updatable storage capacity because doing so would diminish future sales of larger capacity models.
That is precisely the reason. Apple has always used the larger storage options as ways to sell higher priced products. In my opinion, they have always been a bit stingy when it came to system RAM and storage. It doesn't make any sense that in 2016, you can't expand the iPhone storage unless you physically buy a higher priced model. There is much to love about iOS and iPhones/iPads....but internal storage limitations are NOT one of them. I've torn between waiting on new iPhone and Samsung Galaxy Note 7. I'm just growing so tired of Apple retreading the same old phone every year and presenting useless features as if they are ground-breaking technology. And year after year...you STILL can't use a damn micro SD card to store more pictures...its just maddening.

I was just following some other threads and it struck me as apropos even today that Apple refuses to allow people to expand their storage like everyone else does. I guess its safe to assume that there isn't really a need to comment any further, unless of course you just feel the need to.

Google doesn't do it either. Has something to do with not wanting to use insecure methods of storing data and not wanting to pay any money to a company based in Redmond, WA any money.

$Apple'$ Reason$

At least Samsung bumped up the Note7 to a 64gb base model along with a micro-sd while iPhone 7 only gets 32gb. If you love storing a bunch of videos and games, Note 7 is the one to get for multimedia playback.

At least some posters from eight years ago is right on the money with their reason. Imagine 16gb became pretty standard in 2008. Now Apple is barely getting rid of it in 2016! Some things never change and neither will Apple.

I don't need to store videos on device. I use streaming works just as well and doesn't take storage. And best thing yet indont have a POS skin on my phone with nothing but double apps on it. I.e. Every single Samsung app is nothing but useless junk since Google has the exact same apps already on the device. Would rather use any other manufacturer but one that uses shiny and flashy products aimed at the dumb Android users. Every other manufacturer is better then Damsung the slow king of mobile phones. The 820 sucks compared to the a9 chip. Especially when that same stupid company doesn't provide enough RAM on it. Touchpizz needs 6-8gbs of ram not 4. Especially since the s7 edge barely functions with the same amount of ram. By the way the 7+ comes with 64gbs of ram going up to 256. Will take flash memory over easily stolen unsecure SD cards any day. Especially when two Korean companies refuse to implement it the correct way.

Well things are picking up :)

I don't miss my Samsung SD Cards with my 128gb iPhone. Cloud storage is more prevalent now and cheap as is external storage devices.
