I don't understand why it's possible to open up Mail in iOS and have all the new messages sitting right there in my inbox, while in a desktop-class OS I have to wait a considerable amount of seconds for the client to refresh and download all the new messages.

What's the reason?

Because on a Mac you have the resources to be able to just leave Mail open, at which point it can use the IMAP equivalent of Push and accomplish the same thing?

A.

And how is that identical to the situation that I've described? I don't leave Mail open 24/7 neither I'd do it.
