Several times now the weather widget has shown a temperature that is obviously wrong, and when I tap on it, the app loads and the correct temperature is displayed. Then when I go back to the widget, it is now correct.

There seems to be no pattern to when this happens; it's totally random. I've deleted the weather widget for now because wrong information is worse than no information!

Am I missing something? Why doesn't the widget update to show current weather?

It’s the way these new widgets are designed. They operate on a timeline and only refresh at certain intervals or when significant information may be presented, like an updated delivery date on a package.

You may have read about the Clock widget not showing accurate time. This is for the same reason.

The weather widget isn't allowed to display the correct up-to-date information, as it would make all the other widgets jealous.

Even crazier is after you refresh the widget, frequently it will still not match the app info.
Not sure exactly where they pull their data from but ... 🤭😂😂😂

The new widget system is far from good. Perhaps by iOS / iPadOS 26 they will get it ironed out! 🙄 Most of the ones I’ve tried are just gimmicky and don’t really provide a useful service. A few are good, but not too many so far. There are a few weather widgets available now, but none are working as well as they should be IMO.
