Why doesn't the US get good TV shows?

That thread title took a bit longer to read than usual.

Um....The Chaser is a good show, but I'm kind of glad the 2 guys got arrested for trying to get past security disguised as a Canadian convoy with Osama Bin Laden sitting inside the main car at the APEC thing. It's definitely funny, but just because you're on TV, doesn't mean you're above the law.

I'm really starting to hate celebrities who get away with stuff because they're on TV, sing songs, or star in movies.

I rather agree with Abstract. Based on the readability, or otherwise, of the thread title as written, perhaps the quality of schools is of more pressing concern.

    1) Chaser is awesome

but they are an exceptional crew...they each have law/literature etc degrees from one of Australia's top uni's...in other words, they were in the 'club' and fell out because they didn't like it

    2) as weckart says, the quality of US schools is more important

while the chaser is a classic show...i do think that what binds the show together is australian...so 'foreigners' will only find the skits funny

in closing, the chaser are a response to australia's 'americanization'...corporations are gaining more power and many feel australian ideals are being lost, especially under Howard, ...hence 'The Chaser's War on Everything'

    god bless them

Why don't we never get good grammar?

Anyway, the U.S. gets some good TV shows. Right now I'm into Dead Like Me, having watched a marathon of episodes the other day on Sci-Fi.

The Sopranos, House M.D., Heroes, Lost, Greys Anatomy, King of the Hill, The Simpsons, Arrested Development, Family Guy...

It seems that the only TV programmes I watch are US imports!

(Although I do enjoy watching Chaser... clips on YouTube.)

The only US shows I watch are Lost and Heroes. I just really can't watch anything else. That said I don't drift far from the BBC

Is the title not intentionally a double negative?

While it isn't not unlikely, probably not.

Americans make several fantastic TV shows. I couldn't say that several years ago (where the only good shows came from HBO), but now it's quite obvious.

Also, I always got a bigger laugh out of CNNNNN. ;)

We here in the USA have something that most other countries don't have: 60+ channel cable TV and 120+ channel small-dish satellite TV.

As a result, it takes a bit more searching to find the good shows. I do know here in the USA, cable channels such as TNT, USA, and FX offer a lot of surprisingly good shows, and if you're into documentaries both the Discovery Channel and History Channel are worth watching. (I'm a big fan of Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel. :D )

    Because Americans have no taste.

That's why 24 is so popular.
