Why don’t Apple carry 16gb

So if MacBook Pro’s are for professionals h do they not carry 16gb pros in the the 13” range?
 
Probably because it’s not a popular model. People who need more RAM are likely to pick the 15”
 
Apple carries plenty of 16GB 13" models. You just have to order one. Or you could buy a refurb. Plenty of those too!
 
he has a good point tho, why doesn't apple carry them in the store? really doesn't make sense for a 2019 13" Pro

Because MBP is for the prosumer market. "Prosumers" don't buy based on RAM, they buy mostly based on price. They sell at lot more of the 8 GB to keep the price down.
 
I think they stock primarily the 8gb to satisfy demand of the masses. I remember last year later in the cycle you were able to pick up a fully loaded version.

ALSO curious, if anyone bought the base model of the new 2019 15"? yes, 400 cheaper than the 8 cores and only 6 cores...
 
I picked up the top spec i7 / 16GB / 1TB 13" model from my local store. Spot checking it seems quite a few stores in the midwest have them in stock. This might be a new thing, as you're right - I've never seen a 16GB model in stock at a local store (in my case, Apple or Best Buy).

When checking stock for this particular model, be sure to scroll down on the Apple store website and select the highest spec 13" ... configuring the "next to last" one with same specs shows not in stock, but configuring the higher spec with the exact config I mention above shows in stock. I'm guessing the highest spec model must have a different SKU or something.
 
IS 8gb RAM enough for the average user of a 13? or is it best to order with 16? OR is it more important to bump up memory from 250 to 500? or both? :)
Just want a smooth, snappy machine basically... not asking for too much...
 
Apple does extensive research on what sells in the stores. They know what most 13 buyers are looking for the lower priced based models.

It someone is willing to pay extra for bigger drives and memory they have probably researched it more, and this not an impulse purchase. This buyer is willing to wait a few days for their specific configuration.

I thought some larger stores actually DO carry these configurations...?
 
I used the 13 inch and would have love to have been able to buy it in store instead of order online. Good question.
 
I did notice that the 13 inch models at Costco are 8 GB. I personally think that 8GB is the bare minimum RAM. I can get to 8 GB just running Firefox and one or two other programs.

I think that all of the MBPs should start at 16 GB as many have integrated graphics and, if customers assume that you can run 2x5K, then you'll need the RAM. Then offer 32 GB as the mid-range up to 64 or 128 GB of RAM.
 
Thing is though, a lot of people simply don’t need more than 8GB of RAM and with the recent lightning-quick SSDs, swapping out to disk is no longer the performance-killer it used to be. I know there’s always lots of posts asking if someone needs 16GB of RAM, but I really think that if you need that much memory, you tend to know already. Most people asking are looking for justification or reassurance to buy a laptop with more RAM in it.

Use of the word Pro is a marketing thing, no more than that. As with all Apple policies we can criticise as much as we like, but the revenue numbers tell them they're doing it right, making a tasty slice on every computer sold.

I personally don't like slower machines if it can be helped and if it's cheap.

32 GB of RAM should cost about $200.

If a Mac Pro system can hold 1.5 TB of RAM, why can’t a MacBook Pro hold 128 GB, particularly since the RAM is so cheap today.
 
At large stores Apple typically carry the 16GB RAM, Upgraded processor and 1TB storage option of the 13''.

I had a hope that the 2019 13'' Pro models would come with 16GB RAM as standard to justify the pricing.
