Why even Android anymore?

Interesting you say that. I haven’t had to do any work to keep my iOS device running well, aside from when a beta would really mess things up. I kind of wish iOS would let me kill animations, though.

Are wired earbuds included at least? I guess this somehow sounds like "Face ID is the future and superior to Touch ID in security", Yet adds touch ID in the same lineup of phones as the X, and includes it in the newest ipad. There seems to be inconsistent backtracking when it comes to Apple. Seems contradicting in my eyes at least.

iPhone 7 and 8 have more than enough room for a headphone jack! Even the X, with its Notch. The Galaxy S9/S9+ kept the headphone jack! Apple removed th headphone jack so people would buy the apple air pods.

Exactly, it seems so "odd" that Apple removes the headphone jack while offering a solution, to its own problem/solution, which would be, dongles. Instead of having to carry around a dongle everywhere, why not just pay a hefty price for some BT earbuds! Pure greed at its finest. Why not have the option to retain the headphone jack, and give users the option to purchase airpods, or a dongle if they may choose to live the #DongleLife.

What is so special about airpods again? Because I have not had bluetooth disconnects at ALL with my devices over the years. So the W1 chip wouldn't be beneficial to me or any Android users.

Usually I would copy iPhone to iPhone and have to address new or reset to default stuff due to the update or new device. Having done a couple of reset as new due to a misbehaving 7+, I was appalled at the number of settings, the locations of some, and the misnaming of others based on functionality. Great example was the "Experimental Features for Safari". Was totally unaware of these and the default settings until @C DM pointed them out. Fixed an issue I was having.

From scratch, I found the settings on Android much more basic.

I still feel iOS Settings could use a makeover. 😉

Yeah. iOS settings could use a bit of work in the UI area. Plus Apple needs to decide where settings are going to be. Some are in the app, some are in the settings app. It’s kind of a mess sometimes.

Have you even looked at the inside of the 7/8/X? Or watched what the guy had to do to put a headphone jack on his iPhone? He had to cram all the parts really close together, battery being a heat insulator closer to the processor that it a heat producer, and even had to move the Taptic Engine. He also had to remove the barometric vent.

So he had to really jack up his phone to add that in because of internal space issues.

They had to make it bigger because they removed the home button and needed the bigger Taptic Engine to help give the feeling of an actual button. If they were using that as an excuse, they would have actually mentioned that in stage. They didn’t. They said courage.

Pretty much. Android devices have a bigger battery and generally more components. Yet they still can still include a headphone jack.

It seems like a weird series of events:

1. Remove headphone jack

2. Include dongle for headphone jack as a bandaid, but now users can't use headphones while charging, unless they buy another dongle.

3. Introduce airpods, so now users can charge phone while maintaining audio, but now they must charge airpods from time to time

4. Apple introduces airpower! Now users can charge their devices by purchasing yet ANOTHER accessory! Possibly charging a future product, the airpods holder with wireless charging built in!

When the plug went away I took a long look at my uses. Bought a good pair of B&O BT headphones.
But ....
My IPP 12.9 G2 has a headphone jack.
My rMB has a headphone jack.
My iPhone does not ...

I just wish Apple would be a bit more consistent. and btw, the AirPods, without some type of flexible earpiece, they do not fit properly in my ears. I tried them and yes, compared to my B&O, the sound quality is poor.

What competition? Looks to me there is an lot of android following apple. Remember Samsung got sued for cloning Apple and now the whole of Android is leaning towards using apple and iOS as a template...

In my thinking, a competitor differentiates not imitates. Right now the direction of Android is looking more and more like iOS.

I was not suggesting Android go away I was saying if Android was basically going to try to be a cheap iPhone look a like why wouldn't one get the real deal? Why copy apple at least on the surface level?

I mean if you wanted to take sales away from apple why design a device that looks and functions like an apple on the surface level? This to me seems like an underhanded move to deceive people to buy a lower cost alternative, I mean ("it looks almost the same right? And the price is a few hundred bucks lower! ...wait, why can't I get imessage on this thing? I thought it was an iPhone because it almost looked like one?")

I'm still not sure if I am making sense or getting things out of my head right? Some thoughts may be a little disjointed 😕

My perception on this is quite different than yours. I see Apple as the company copying features and trying to catch up with Android. It is Google, Samsung, and LG that are innovating in the mobile device industry, and Apple copies popular features innovated by those companies and refines them in a sometimes-unique way, and then tries to claim that Apple was the innovator of said features.

As someone who has had many mobile devices, both iPhone and Android -- and I now have a Galaxy S8, I don't feel that I'm using a cheap alternative with Android -- I feel like I have the real McCoy.

Of course the iPhone 8 and X are great devices, and if you feel that you'd be better served with an iPhone than staying with Android, I'm sure you'll be happy. I might even buy another iPhone in the future if there is a specific feature that got my attention. But the idea that Apple is the premium brand and Android is the generic alternative is something I don't agree with. There is plenty of room and demand for both in the market.

But as far as companies copying and refining features -- there is nothing wrong with that, no matter what company does it. That's just how industries progress. (Well, of course a company can file a lawsuit to protect a patent, but I personally have an issue with many of the generic patents that companies are being granted that stifle competition.) The same copying and refining happens with the automotive industry all of the time. One company releases some feature that becomes popular, and then another company begins offering the same feature on much less expensive vehicles.

My main use set is the H5 Green - these take about 2 hours or so.
A second pair of H8i Natural - take closer to 3 hours to charge.

Why Android? Android is a choice for people that are okay with giving information for the most personal assistant. It will be more proactive than iOS will ever be.

Not everyone who uses Android, will be using the Google Assistant. More people have preferred Android over iOS, long before there were digital assistants. I believe it would be for the openness of the platform, without all of the annoyances and restrictions that iOS has.

I was answering for myself why I would go back to Android. Everyone will have a different reason for any choice. It could be as simple as liking the way the share sheet works or liking the web browser.

Yes I agree. My S8+ has been a great phone so I have nothing to complain about. Even at a year old it's still fast and smooth and functions perfectly. I've received many little software updates and of course the big one to 8.0.

With that said, I have found many on these message boards that would like Android to pull out (at least at the higher end of the market) so Apple would have no competition. The thinking I've seen is that no competition means Apple could raise prices and it would enrich the corporation even further.
