one of the big attractions of this phone used to be battery life but for me it seems to get worse with each update.

On iOS 10 I’d get a good day and a half of hammering it, 2 days if I was careful, now I don’t even get 1 day being careful. I get 2 hours screen time.

Brand new battery in January made no difference, set up as a new phone did nothing, my daughter seems to be suffering a similar fate, she’s a teen so never off it and has to charge it a couple of times per day.

Adding an Apple Watch has made it even worse.

Why would this be?

Connecting an Apple Watch to my phone definitely affects the battery life, I'm guessing the constant bluetooth connection and the pushing and pulling of data between the two devices must take some kind of toll on it.

I've yet to upgrade iOS since getting my SE. Battery life hasn't changed in over 2 years of daily
Heavy use.

Speed battery etc are all identical to the day I got it. Love it and refuse to upgrade iOS because I know either battery or speed or both will take a toll.

Conspiracy hat off for a moment, heavy Bluetooth or bad reception will drain the battery faater, especially bad reception. I have a room with really bad reception and when I use the phone in there I can feel it getting hot and can see the battery go down fast in front of my eyes

I had a sudden change in battery performance after one of the early iOS 12 updates. I replaced the battery in case it was that, but still had bad battery drain....I could sit there and watch the battery go down. I noticed that Location was being accessed for long periods of time instead of accessing then turning off, so I turned off all location services used by the system that I didn't really need, which is most of them. That seems to have helped a bit.

I also noticed that Siri was using a ton of battery, and made some adjustments there. Have you checked your Battery settings to see what draining your battery?

Have you tried disabling Screen Time?

There you go. That's your answer.

I know a girl that can deplete the battery of her XR, the longest lasting iPhone to date, in half a day.

When I look at my battery stats there is nothing that stands out, Like Safari is top of my list 27 mins on screen, Pocketcasts second 5mins screen,3hrs background. All normal stuff. I have disabled Motion and Fitness, will that effect my Apple watch, went through and disabled a few background apps, disabled screen time. All this reminds me of using a Samsung now, having to disable things just to make it through the day. The thing is this phone used to make it through the day easily with heavy use, now I am scared to use it as you can just see the battery dropping, I took it off the charger at 6am, by 1pm it was at 40%, I had to put it on charger at 3pm just so I would make it home.

Yeah but my daughter is not using my phone, she's using her own SE

You might be onto something. My reception at work is crap inside maybe 1-2 bars 4G, I tried just using 3G but don't have any 3G coverage so its 4G or nothing

iOS 10 came out in 2016. So we’re talking about a phone that’s at least two years old.

Of goddamn course it’s battery will be worse by now.
