Has anyone thought that part of the lack of demand for the iPod Touch is that it hasn't been updated for so long?

I still believe that there is a market for the touch, for people getting into the iOS ecosystem, for kids (Who don't need iPhones) and for Android users who wish to use iOS apps and have their iTune media.

I do think that the next iPod Touch will be rebranded an iPad Nano.. just a theory. I reckon it should get an A8 processor, as by mid year (when I think it will be released) the A8 will be approaching being 1 year old.

Not every parent wants their children running around with an iPhone or an iPad, and many people don't want a contract. Here in Australia an 8GB 5C is $529 (off contract) and that is 8GB (16 or 32 GB are the realistic minimum). The iPod Touch is $249 for double that storage, in a thinner case.

People who buy an iPod get stuck in apple's ecosystem pretty well, and that leads to purchases of future Apple products, which can only be a good thing!
Basically my point is that yes sales are significantly down, but who could blame people for not wanting to buy a iPod with 4 year old internals.

The Touch is dead.
It never sold that good anyway, it was basically a cheap iPhone for kids.

Why would anyone pay 199 for an old iPod Touch with 2011 hardware?
Spend the extra $50 and get a iPad Mini. At least it doesn't have a 4 inch screen.

I use my touch 5G - on 7.1.2 - as a travel/selfie camera and music player only. took it to mexico in november and it was perfect - didnt want to risk loss/theft of an $$$ iphone 6 and the size of the touch in the pocket with a powersupport air jacket was fantastic.

this is one reson i love my classic so much though - it doesnt get outdated by software. any ios device? its got a shelf life. sure you can avoid updating it as i am, but knowing it cant run the latest software and therefore is de facto outdated, compared to something like the classic where software development is over, is a bit disappointing.
