I always like to get the last of the line in a model. So the 2011, I ordered it about a month before the new model was announced as a second iMac to last me until the end run on the current model.

By then, we know everything there is to know, pros and cons, about it. And hell, I really do like the 2011 model.

Apple burned me by not fixing my faulty display, forcing me to tether another monitor to my iMac. I won't be trusting their iMacs again. I'll be buying a Mac Mini in the near future. Many of the other selections in the poll would reinforce my decision though, if I weren't certain already.

Because I hate being a beta tester and didn't like the lack of user upgradability. Plus it didn't hurt that I got 21.5 inch with 2.8 ghz, i7, 8 gbs of ram and a 2 TB HD for less than the 2012 base model.

I love my 2011 iMac - no need for another iMac until this one gives up the ghost or someone gives me an iMac for free. (Accepting PM's for any who may want to send me a new iMac)

My only concern (one that I pushed myself to overcome and now in the waiting for delivery game) was the prospect of teething problems that come with the new form factor, new cooling system, new storage management software (Fusiondrive) and return to NVIDIA which Apple doesn't have the happiest of co-existence if I am honest.

Correction.. I'm waiting for nothing. Nothing at all. Order placed. :D

Nice! Congrats

Because I'm still happy with my 2011 base 27". Think I'll have a local 3rd party mac repair shop install an SSD in it towards the end of its extended applecare ...assuming it can stay in business until then.

Opted out of the rMBP as well, found a sweet-:censored: deal on my 17" MBP with a glossy sammy screen on CL. No regrets.

Because of thinking and thinking and thinking about the storage issue not being fully useable with Bootcamp and because of this it would lead me to the full SSD option and then it would force me to buy a large capacity external HD and because of poor sound quality compared to previous models I would then feel a need to have to purchase a sound setup or some kind of high end external speakers. And when all of this is to be said and done I would then be sporting a whole lot of clutter all over the place and would then be out of a whole lot of money and all this would come while my 2010 27" iMac is still working fine.

My 2010 iMac 27 with eSATA mod is doing quite well too. If I buy at all it will be next summer 2011 refurb and I'll have it modded for eSATA as well. eSATA is a must have for me since I test multiple OS versions and SATA is compatible as a boot device for most everything.

It really annoys me that Apple won't offer decent expansion offerings that are compatible outside their ecosystem. I understand their reasoning but it's annoying nonetheless.

Cheers,

Not surprising tha "other" is the most commonly chosen option by far. The others are more nit picking than real reasons.

I won't be buying a '12 iMac, and am unlikely to buy a subsequent one...... I upgraded my early 2009 Mini, and it will continue to do for me for several more years. My next Mac will be a Mini, which will replace just the guts of the system, while keeping the components that work just fine.

I already own a base model 21.5' 2011 iMac. The cost to performance would be unjustifiable if I were to update. I figure my current iMac will be a solid choice through 2014/2015 with memory and hard drive upgrades.

I havent gotten one because the 27 isnt really widely available yet. also I dont have enough cash yet. I have half of it saved up so far. I may opt for a 15 inch retina macbook pro instead. Im still deciding. plenty of time to think about it. I need at least a few more months to save up the rest anyway.

I voted other, I am just not in the market for a new iMac. I think I still got about 3-4 years left on my 2010 27 inch.

I bought a mid 2011 model last November and three months ago it did a back dive off my desk. It started up after that but the front glass needed to be replaced. There is now two dings on the aluminum stand and a hairline scratch on the actual LCD. I basically killed the resale value I think. Hopefully the hard drive lasts. I'm not sure if the back dive off my desk will shorten the HDD life.

None for sale in store.

Don't like the vague shipping date listed if I were to order online.

So I wait.

Bought one.

Love it. The purchase had been planned for 2 + years.

It's my first Mac--I'm 12 + years into self-employed computer technician.

I've broken through the anxious unease and into the learning curve of discovery and fun.

Buh bye Microsoft, not looking back.

These stories are sad to hear, curious how the hell do these things happen? Do people do backyard or indoor wrestling near these things? Lol

I own a mid 2010 imac I got the money for the new one I guess the longer you wait the more bang for your buck you get besides its still running fine after 2 and half years of use.

Design wise don't care for as its the same from the front even mouse and keyboard, however my iMac is missing the latest ports including thunderbolt which i may not use and the infamous usb 3.0 which could not hurt.

Hardware yeah the opting out of dvd is a hurt but i am starting to go digital with iTunes, the guts is the biggest advantage with 3ghz processor vs my 2.8 i7 32gb of ram vs my 8gb, 3tb hd with fusion vs my 1 tb and a 2gb video card vs my 512mb.

What i still want and am bitting my teeth for is a retina display with no more glass enclosures it will look like a macbook pro retina but ten times better, I am waiting this one out how painful it may be as a 27 inch retina will leave the new imac well lets just say without the full facial makeup.

You have a good system anyway but I suspect you may be waiting until 2014 to get what will be a top of the range option at a prohibitive price...
