People aren't even using 4G to its fullest currently.

5G will only be used as a marketing tool next year.

It won't be accessible to most of us until 2020 at the soonest.

I am afraid that Apple will lose some people just because of them lacking 5G. It is not enough for me to consider leaving but there are those who think performance is everything and will go to the dark side. Most will be back in 2020.

5g will help with data speeds in congested areas and I don't see apple waiting to add 5G to there devices

Seems like a waste to have a feature that can’t be utilized for a couple years.

Especially if it's a feature that costs you now, and by the time you can use it there will be better flavors of it, or products that don't come with the same downsides.

Given the issues 5G has with penetration given its wavelength, and the fact that 4G LTE still isn't a given depending on where I'm traveling, I am not going to be interested in paying for it any time soon.

I think that we don't know technically what changes you need to do to current antennas to make them 5g compatible.
I remember that the 4G upgrade was done very quickly.

5G will be amazing when it reaches us in Rural America who depends on cellular for internet data so please stop with the 5G hate !

We don’t even have large rollouts of gigabit LTE, yet.

And T-Mobile confuses me the way that they are talking about continuing to develop Band 71.

It sort of sounds like they might try to develop very high speed Band 71 and brag that it is “almost” 5G based on the data speeds.

I could deal with that. :)

From what I hear it can’t peneteate and has shorter signal range. So you need more towers.

Yes, you do.

We might end up needing thousands of microcells to propagate some kinds of the 5,000 MHz-plus bands.

My 8+ and XR have hit over 200 Mpbs down. I think I’m ok. This was a random test this morning where a decent sized crowd of people on their phones were.

Once of the many things Apple is really good at is finding the RIGHT time to release technology. it's better for them and consumers to wait till 5G is mature, and deploy it correctly,.

Definitely jealous! Tell me where you are so I can move.

It's very rare around here to get anywhere near 100 Mbps. Maybe the Pentagon parking lot, that's about it.

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. A spot near my kid’s schools is where I can hit over 200. I can break 100 in my house.

4GX is being rolled out here. Speeds can be pretty surprising...

So not in a rush for 5G.

I plan on upgrading to the 2020 iPhone anyway, so timing should be good.

Go read the article from Ars. 5G is being deployed in cities, not rural areas. Its short range plus added cost is not suitable for rural area

If Apple did include the feature in next year's phones, most of us would be paying for an added feature we can't use. And by the time it got rolled out by Verizon and T-Mobile, I would be looking to upgrade again. I get good LTE speed now.

I'm still wondering whether T-Mobile will surprise us with the obvious, all-pervasive 600 MHz Band 71 gigabit LTE "near 5G" network that covers most of us.

;)

They will want to wait for the Intel modems to be replaced by their Apple modems, anyway.

They'll be fine.
