The real gripe is that my firewall charger does not charge the iphone 3g

The only thing they removed was the Dock. Something I don't agree with, but apparently they think that most people who want a dock have a universal dock, and would use that with the 3G insert.

TEG

I never used dock so apply excluding it was not a problem for me....however I'm a little pissed that my firewall charger (the one that came included with the original ipod mini).

Apple seems to be cutting costs in order to come to a price where most consumers can afford their products....eliminating chargers on ipods, eliminating the remotes on the macbooks etc but it's for the best since most people will not miss it and it's in the best benefit of their shareholders to increase profit margins.

I really don't use my dock half the time and as for a remote...I have never used my remote for my imac. Who needs them? I however love my cleaning cloth. I went to the apple store looking for another one because I seem to misplace mine all the time. But I just realized that I can go to the cloth store and my a yard of it and have a crap load of them. :)

Ya, but they don't all say iPhone on them, jk, lol.

The different type of ear phones don't use/need the foam covers. And I don't need a dock - as long as I can plug it into the wall and charge it, I'm happy. I wish they would have added a car charger though. A cleaning cloth? Are you joking? Am I supposed to carry the cloth in my pocket everywhere I go? Ha! That's what the inside of my t-shirt is for - and chicks dig it when I lift up my shirt to wipe my phone and they can see my ripped abs.

Why don't the people that are complaining just take back their phones? It has not been 30 days yet...just take it back and get your money back..

Don't forget to leave your name and contact info so the next time Apple designs something they can make sure it's what you want.

I owned the original iPhone and loved it very much (though it was far from perfect), but the new 3G really lacked a lot of the little things that mattered.

1. Cleaning cloth
2. Dock
3. Extra connection cable
4. Earphone covers

I know I get the the GPS chip, 3G connectivity and is cheaper. But what's up with losing all the little nice things :rolleyes:I know i'm just being picky, but still it's a bit annoying.

IDK what you're talking about, but I got a cleaning cloth. The original didn't come with an extra cable either, in fact no iPod or iPhone has ever come with more than one cable. Finally the original iPhone didn't have earphone covers either. The only thing it doesn't have is the dock.

What does a dock cost anyway, $29? I got the 16GB, so that brings me to a total of $328, where an 8GB with dock cost $599. Still a better deal.

I'm glad they got rid of most of that stuff to save us from buying duplicates. Remember when the original Nintendo came with a video game? That's nice and all, but now most systems don't come with one so you can pick your own game and not be tied down to whatever they give you.

Printers don't come with cables because I have 15,000 USB cables and don't need one every time I replace a stinkin' printer. Same deal with a lot of USB peripherals.

So I really wouldn't miss the dock or the earbud covers (which haven't come with iPods or iPhones in a few years). In fact, I'd rather just get the phone itself without the other stuff and pay even less. I have two wall chargers and two USB to dock connector cables. Why do I need more?

Anyway, there are certain Jews who may or may not take offense to the work "jipped."

For future reference.

Hahaha, FWIW, my HP Officejet J6480 came with a USB cable, but I bought it DIRECTLY from HP. I think the model they sell in stores does NOT come with a cable. It's a deal that they made with the stores to increase profit margins by letting the stores sell you a $20-40 dollar cable they paid 50 cents for.

The same goes for the iPhone, it's about PROFIT for AT&T and Apple, they now get to sell you a $29 dollar dock that cost them probably a couple bucks to make. And the worst part about it is you pay $29 for the dock, and then you gotta pay $19 if you want an extra cable to hook it to the computer. The DOCK USED TO COME WITH A CABLE... But I guess they figure we only need to plug our iPhones in at work or home, not both! So I had to spend an extra $50 on my iPhone to have a nice dock with cable at work, but it's all good................. I could have ordered those accessories online much cheaper, but I wanted them NOW.

LOL

Off-topic, not that the thread has any real merit...

I've never seen "jipped" spelled that way, nor have I heard the word is offensive to the Jewish.

Oh the other hand, I have heard that gypped, can be offensive to gypsies who are stereotyped as traveling people who swindle, cheat and steal only to be gone the next morning.

Oddly jipped isn't in the Mac's dictionary, yet gypped is.

gyp: verb; cheat or swindle (someone) : that's salesmanship, you have to gyp people into buying stuff they don't like.

I believe you're thinking:

jew: verb; bargain with someone in a miserly or petty way : jew someone down.

Both are offensive.

Strange, must be some regional thing. We spell it "jipped" where I live and it's in reference to jews.

/knows a few who find it offensive

To make you feel better, think about it this way...
We get the innovated dedicated sim ejection tool instead of the dock!!!!
No more paper clip for sim ejection!

Who cares about the dock when you can have this awesome tool???
:D

Let's see:

4G iPod:
iPod
Dock
Headphones
ear-bud protectors
Firewire Cable
USB Cable
wall charger (uses firewire cable)

5.5G iPod Video
iPod
USB Cable
Wall charger
Headphones

iPhone (2G):
iPhone
cleaning cloth
headphones
USB cable
wall charger (uses USB cable)

iPhone (3G):
iPhone
Cleaning cloth
headphones
USB cable
wall charger (uses USB cable)

So really, I'm not sure why you're complaing, you get more "extras" than and iPod Video. ( And the cleaning cloth is with the paprework...don't you people RTFM? :))

And any way you look at it, or spell it, "Jipped, gypped, and "Jewed down"" are all offensive...may want to edit the thread title.

I'd rather that all of the peripherals were included in the box. When I went to buy my phone, I had to pay and extra $29 for a car charger. $29 for a frickin piece of plastic with a metal wire in it???? What a RIP OFF! I also noticed that the iPhone protector cases are selling for $29 for LESS plastic than there is in a 2-liter Pepsi bottle!!!!

WHEN USB FLASH DRIVES FIRST CAME OUT, THEY CAME WITH FREE USB EXTENSION CABLES (I KNOW BECAUSE I BOUGHT A BUNCH OF THEM FOR OUR OFFICE). AFTER ONLY A MONTH OR TWO, THEY STARTED SELLING THE CABLES SEPARATE. TODAY, AT BEST BUY, THE ONLY EXTENSION CABLES YOU CAN BUY COST ABOUT $25 - which is MORE than the flash drive itself !!!!!!!!!!!

Try buying stuff online. It's alot cheaper.

I get any cables and electronic accessories from meritline.com.

They sell stuff dirt cheap.

LOL

You need to shop better for your cables. I would NEVER pay $20 for a USB cable. I think I usually see them for about $7. I think I found a 6' FireWire cable with two adapters to the small input (like on cameras) for $15 at Target.

Part of it is the companies trying to make a profit, but it is also about taking unnecessary costs out. Seeing as how I damaged my dock so it won't play music in the line out right (thanks to a tumble), it's not much use to me now. Sure, it's nice to stand the phone upright, but I have to take 1/4 of my case off.

I personally would like to get just the phone, manual, and software in the box for about $150. I'll buy the headphones, dock, cables, whatever else separately. If they did that, someone like Sam's Club would offer a bundle with a bunch of extra stuff for a few dollars more. They do that with game systems all the game.

FFS! You're crying about some ear phone covers, a cloth (which you DID get but were too lazy to look), and a dock. Are you ***** serious?!

Let me ask you something. If I walked up to you on the street and offered you a choice between a $399 iPhone that has earbud covers, a dock, and a cloth or a $199 iPhone sans covers, dock, and cloth BUT had GPS, 3G, and a couple other cool new things, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU BUY?

Stop being a crybaby and get some perspective dude.

Why do people keep referring to complaints as "crying"? Is that some cool, hip internet insult or something whenever a complaint is given? The guy gave his opinion even if not correct, where exactly is the "crying" in it?

I see it all the time and always wonder why people say it. Generally I just get the feeling they want to insult the other poster or they feel more hardcore when they say it

Well, I found the cleaning cloth and it's much better than the 1st gen's :D But another usb cable would have been nice since I use the enclosed one with the wall plug. But I do like this cable better than the one w/ the release buttons on the side because that one would always come loose.

come on now, they took all that stuff out to make room for the all important SIM-Card Remover.

Ha.

here is a free paper clip :)

I wish it had a dock, and it should come with headphone covers, ALL IPODS DO. it really should have everything from the first time around, cheaper or not.

I just checked my box and I too missed the cleaning cloth. I mean felt black cloth on matte black packaging, easy to spot :)

They don't mention the cleaning cloth on the back of the package on what's included.

Don't forget, you also get a snazzy sim card removal tool :)
