I think the rate of release on new products was just as fast or slow under jobs. It's just the stuff he released was more spectacular, the newness and excitement lasted longer.

In this day and age, the rate in which technology is advancing, coupled with the increased desire for instant gratification, makes it seem like forever between releases.

Btw I did purchase a 7 plus in black because my six broke. At this point it's just a phone. A little faster, a little thinner, but pretty much the same. They all look the same and do the same thing. Now I hear retro phones are making a comeback. Who knows maybe the next iPhone will look like the first one.

Only has 1GB of RAM, battery is probably shot by now, aluminum alloy in the 6 series was inferior and dents/bends easy.

The iPhone 7+ has 3GB of RAM, which is a huge difference in performance over the iPhone 6+.
I still have my 6+. It holds its charge still and suits its purpose. I suppose at some point I'll replace it but not just yet.

I hope this is me in 3 years or even more with my 7+ and hopefully much longer with my Mac - nothing wrong with hanging on to something that "just works". ;)

I held onto my 6+ from launch day, so 2.5 years later its going strong. I just got the camera replaced for free as it was considered a manufacturing defect, but since I baby my phone the problem just took that long to appear I guess with enough movement to be made (loose pin holding lens?).

Anyway, I was on the fence when the 7+ got introduced. I enjoyed the actual matte black, the 3gb ram, the dual lens camera, and the force touch home button. However, I decided that I could wait until a redesign was made which sucked but I got over it and am still happy with my 6+. Plus, I missed the immediate window to pre order and would have had to wait a month.

Now, I am tempted to upgrade especially with the (red) coming out as it would be different from the traditional colors. Financially and practicality it makes sense for me just to wait it out. I also waited almost 6 years to upgrade my MBA to the rMB. Waiting that long actually makes the upgrade feel that much nicer.

As for complaining about apple, they do this because the product works and people buy it (from a majority standpoint) regardless of what they put out. Now, I do believe they need to start upping the ante as windows machines / android / google are beginning to make a come back with more bold designs. We'll just have to wait and see.

RAM is used for maintaining app suspended states in iOS. Short of the specific example of an app getting pushed from RAM and needing to reload fresh an iPhones speed is purely based on the processor and NAND.
That happens far more often than you're implying. iPhone 6 plus basically couldn't multitask at all. Having a few tabs open in Safari would result in running out of RAM.

I'm still using a 6+ as well, but will upgrade this fall (my phone is still going strong right now so there's no rush; unless it breaks I can wait until the fall). My battery life is actually still really good but the upgraded RAM in my next device will be nice.

I'm personally waiting to see if the iPhone Edition with no bezels materializes. Very likely I'll get that one especially if it has a return to the glass style design like the iPhone 4.

I'm not denying that I only had experience with the 6 personally.

I can multitask enough to copy something from one app and paste it into another. Documents in word and excel stay opened if I flip in and out of them. Like I said it may not be lighting fast but I'm not sitting around and waiting for more then a second or two.

Work just started paying $50 a month towards my phone bill so when the iPhone I'm waiting for comes out I'll essentially be using that stipend to get it. :D

Unfortunately I can't say the same thing about my iPad Mini. That sadly has become very slow. I've noticed I have to wait for the UI of mail to draw and then it searches for mail. When the next generation of iPad Pros come out I'll upgrade it.
