Why does your setup make mine look so... crappy normal? :D
No idea. :D

Mine's a hodgepodge. That's a fish tank stand holding up the Studio Display on the right. :)

And my parents bought me that desk and stand (where the cable box is) when I was 14. The hutch part is in the garage. Used to have my Commodore 64 on there and that stand is actually a printer stand with a missing connecting piece (also in the garage). Had my SG-10 Star Micronics printer on that back then.

Haha, for a second there it sounded like you were describing my current hodgepodge desk situation.:D

I’m also a big fan of having a monitor in portrait. It is an unbelievably efficient way to scroll through MRF, write, etc.

In regards to the linked article, it doesn’t bug me much. It’s pretty light weight and lacking Technical depth. He wanted an excuse to buy an old Mac and the no-distraction thing was his excuse to do so. Whatevs. An over developed sense of self-importance is pretty common in today’s under 40 blogger crowd these days.

In other words, it is the exact opposite article I would expect one of y’all to write lol:cool:

Yanno that would be a neat twist for MRF. This place is so entrenched in the whats new or next culture. A series of knowledgeable articles dedicated to old hardware & the very work arounds we’ve fleshed out or refined right here could be really fun & refreshing in its own right. Anyhow gotta get back to work.

Believe me, my wife regrets ever surrendering that part of the living room and my hodgepodge is a big reason why.

As much as I'd like just one smooth piece of wood or a gigantic (and long) desk, that's really low priority in the financial cards.

So looking forward to waving goodbye when my daughter drives off to college and I get her room for my study!

Oh jeez I’ve got 17 Or so years to go still. :D

I’ve been drooling over nice, deep wood L desks for a few years now but the finances are consumed pretty much by everything else and will be for the foreseeable future. My big complaint is that 1/2 of my Hodgepodge desk really is too shallow to have a functional space for my keyboards & mice as I’m in the habit of positioning my towers behind my monitors but Yanno dems da breaks I guess. Nothing 4 or 5 hundred bucks couldn’t fix but yeah, not gunna happen at the moment lol

I’m building up some floating shelves & a window box out of free CL reclaimed wood for mah stuff and will get to the actual desk part eventually I suppose.

Assuming my son departs for college next year, my wife gets his room. He's in his senior year now.

My daughter starts 7th grade tomorrow, so I've still got five years - again, assuming she departs after her senior year.

However, the upshot is that if my son DOES go next year, because my wife gets his room, she'll be MUCH happier about things. :D
