Why in the hoot can’t I AirPlay HBO Max from my iPad Pro to my Apple TV HD?

I always get the error message “can’t play this video“ or something along those lines. Any suggestions?

They’ve probably disabled AirPlay in the iPad app. Download the Apple TV app and you should be fine.

app developers have the option of disabling, or limiting, airplay.

I know this doesn't solve your problem, but AirPlay hasn't been disabled in the app. I've successfully streamed from my iPad Pro to both a 3rd generation Apple TV and an LG TV with AirPlay built in.

For some reason or another, probably money, data mining or both, HBO doesn’t want you casting your iPad stream on to a big screen. The good news is there should be corresponding AppleTV app for HBO that will get you what you want.

also I just tried airplaying from my phone, it worked

I suggest rebooting your aTV, all network gear (router, wifi, modem, etc...) and your phone.

I agree. I have to do this sometime when Plex acts up on my network.
