What stuff are available in those drivers that are not in the default drivers? I've seen someone said CUDA but that's only helpful for video processing software like Premier/Final cut?

    Thanks!

ps. I have an Asus GTX770 I want to use.

A card like the GTX 770/970 simply won't work without Nvidia web drivers. You'll get no acceleration and no resolution options. Apple does not include support for these cards in the Nvidia drivers that are built into macOS.

If you are trying to use an unsupported nvidia card in a cMP you’ll need the web drivers to give you acceleration, and to basically run it.

just tried a this card and according to kextstat, it's loading an Apple/Nvidia driver. I guess it's using built-in drivers?

I can change resolution in display settings

Yes it is, otherwise, nothing to display at all.

Good to know, my mistake. Unfortunately the 970 doesn't.

Right, the 770 is basically identical to the 680, which is fully supported by the drivers included with the OS. If you're using a Maxwell or Pascal series card from NVIDIA, you have to use the web drivers in order to get acceleration.

yeah i was going to say, anything 770 and below (except the 750 series, which are maxwell) will work without nvidia web drivers. apple did ship some imacs with 6xx chips so they are baked into the OS.

also CUDA is separate from the web drivers and installing one does not install the other.
