All iPads Why iPad isnt water resistant?

Hi all,
can somebody gave me a solid reasons why dont we have water resistant iPads like iphones?
Am I the only one who reads in bathtub on iPad?
I'm genuinely curious why they are not water resistant like iPhones when in fact, they are nearly the same design.

I'm sure you could buy a water-resistant case for it if reading in the tub is that important. Truth be told, I don't think anyone should ever trust any electronics to tolerate water, despite any water-resistant claims.

If I were using an expensive iPad in a tub, I wouldn't want just water resistant, I'd want waterproof, e.g.

It just isn't worth the price add-on to have this in the iPad spec. I certainly wouldn't want to pay the additional cost on what is already a pricey item.

10 years ago I had a Sony Xperia Tablet that I took into the Jacuzzi to read and watch videos. I still think the iPad is better, just making a point that its possible and it has been for a long time. Apple will do it, when they can sell that feature.

Completely agree with you OP. I would love to prop my iPad on the chin of our jacuzzi and watch an episode of something while relaxing, but the absence of any water resistance makes that a no go.

And I don’t know how relevant cost/demand considerations are to this question. Did iPhone prices increase considerably when the iPhone 7 introduced a IP67 water-resistant rating? There are a lot of people who use their iPads in the same situations where water-resistance is valuable/essential for the iPhone who would greatly benefit from that same protection.

Yeah, I probably should have said proof. Either way, the OP has their answer, a good case would solve their problem

I’d like this feature too but maybe there would be too many compromises? Perhaps the speakers wouldn’t be as good for example — I think the current sound is pretty excellent for a device this size.

I think the idea would simply be to protect the iPad if, for example, you were by the pool, someone jumped in and splashed water all over your iPad. You'd dry it off before using it but it wouldn't actually be water damaged as a result.

Would be pretty cool, but it does seem to be a feature that is lacking in a lot of modern tablets, maybe it costs a lot more than they feel it’s worth.

Just trying to check that question... I think there was about a $200 increase between base 6 and base 7 - at least here in Australia... which represented about 25% increase.

well.. for me, its not diving with phone, 🤣but as a simple protection against a possible accident. Humid environments (such as bathrooms, tropical climates on vacation) destroy electronics. This strikes me as a good reason to have a certain level of IP on iPads.

Ok, I don't use my phone in the bathroom although I know many folks do. The resulting possible damage is due to their poor habits.

If you live in a place with a lot of rain and you're outside a lot, IP rating on a phone that goes everywhere with you is meaningful. I'm in Seattle now ... In pre-mobile phone days, I lived SW of New Orleans - IP rating really means a lot there.

No. They are used differently than iPads.

Some people carry around/use their iPads like phones so if water resistance makes sense for phones, then it makes sense for iPads… for them, not for everyone. Try to step outside yourselves, people.

These devices are mobile, taken everywhere and often times exposed to the elements, just like cameras and watches and other personal electronics. Consumers somehow seem to appreciate the piece of mind that the weather protection brings.
