Hi, Apple advertise that IPP has powerful GPU and that it can replace computers, if it is so powerful why it cannot drive 4K display?

I am wondering if this entire post came up because of the 2 displays apple offers from LG. there is a problem connecting the new ipad to apples LG 5k display because its thunderbolt 3 and the ipp is usb c. so it will connect to apples offering of LG's 4k display because that is usb c not thunderbolt 3.

I hope so, otherwise it is just wrong.

It can connect to 4K display but at lower resolutions.

HDMI displays or TVs
You can connect iPad Pro to an HDMI display or TV with a USB-C to HDMI adapter. Adapters that support HDMI 2.0 can output video from iPad Pro at 4K resolution and 60Hz.

The Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter is also compatible with iPad Pro. This adapter can output video from iPad Pro at up to 4K resolution and 30Hz.*

iPad Pro can output Dolby Digital Plus audio streams via HDMI, but not Dolby Atmos. Also note that iPad Pro will play HDR10 or Dolby Vision content via HDMI when HDMI 2.0 adapters that support these formats become available.

Are you saying the support site is incorrect?

The gpu is way more powerfull than intel igpu, this is not advertisement is fact. Btw it can output to 4k

Why doesn't work on my IPP? I need 4K at 60Hz. It is 2017 12.9" version.

unfortunately, the video output really is gimped. Yes, it outputs 4k video to an external monitor, but video is all it can do at native 4k.

What you can't do:
  • have an external secondary desktop that is 4k (at best iPad can mirror it's native display, which is 2732×2048 for the 12.9" and 2388×1668 for the 11"). It will be pill-boxed with black bars on the sides.
Personally the "4k external display" feature announced with the 2018 iPad Pro ended up being totally disappointing because of this. I had visions of pro apps making use of 4k external monitor support for a dual-monitor experience where a huge amount of visual info could be displayed on the external monitor in native 4k resolution and the iPad be used as the input/ content manipulation device. sound great, right? ... but, nope hasn't happened yet.

you can get a new Apple TV and use AirPlay to stream 4k videos. Otherwise, nope, Apple tablets won't do what you want ...yet

That does qualify as "driving a 4K display" though. I suspect that's the OP's problem - I am not aware of the 2017 iPad Pro being able to do that, only the 2018.

Thanks for the clarification. So 2018 can do it but not my 2017. I do get big black regions on the sides.
