Works quite well for me. I have two sets of speakers, each connected to an Airport Express. I get pretty consistent audio quality.

Airplay works fine for me over wifi through an Airport Express. About the only thing that's troublesome is mirroring my laptop and using the mouse; a bit of a lag then. Airplay/ATV is my primary means of playing music through my home theater speakers, and I love the convenience.

Visual lag with Airplay is my main gripe - useless when wanting to play fast-paced games on a large screen rather than on a 4" iPhone. Tried on different Internet connections/routers and the problem persists. Not sure if the issue is with the phone, the hardware chip in the ATV, or simply that the technology itself isn't intended for my usage.

Either way it quickly becomes a novelty if you're looking to do anything beyond playing music or chucking a YouTube video on the TV.

works fine for me.
appletv connected directly to router, usually used in conjunction with an ipad 3.

I haven't had any issues with AirPlay. I've used it often in conjunction with my iPad or iPhone to send a Slingbox feed on another TV.

I cannot get airplay to work with safari. I always get "an error has occurred loading this content."

I remember reading about a QoS fix or something similar, but I'm having trouble finding the information now.

If its my network, what do I do? I just upgraded my service to TWC's highest consumer tier. ATV connected via ethernet.

works well for me and has for a while. We actually use it at work, I have our Dr's setup with iPads for viewing their digital X-rays of patients and when they go in to show the patients any findings they can immediately Airplay to a large monitor in the room so it's much easier for the patient to see. This happens dozens of times per day and they haven't come to me with issues but maybe 3 times since implementing this in 2011.

At home it works fairly decent as well, I noticed a drastic improvement a few years ago when I added another AEBS in my living room, where most I would Airplay most of the time, and that AEBS is hardwired to the main AEBS in my office and the AppleTV I am AirPlaying to is hardwired to the living room AEBS. There is very very little lag between my MBA, iPhone or iPad and my nephew will usually AirPlay BigBrother Live Feeds to the TV while he's doing something else and sound and video looks pretty good.

I'm also using fairly quick WiFi hardware at work also, some UniFi 802.11ac Access Points which I'd like to install at home at some point and replace the AEBS's I have currently.

Also at home I purchased my own modem to replace the stock Charter ISP modem, so I now have 16 downstream channel bonding so hopefully that gives me a much more reliable internet connection and I use my own Airport Extreme Base Stations instead of using any type of WiFi solution from the ISP. I then scanned the WiFi signals in my area to find out which wifi channel was the most used channel and changed my network channels to something different so that I had less interference from surrounding networks.

Airplay depends on so many different variables. I have 240Mb fibre, ATV on HD projector downstairs, another in my bedroom. Airport Express in the kitchen for streaming audio, another in the bathroom. Using my ISP supplied router i had some of the connection problems described in earlier posts. To fix this i replaced my ISP router with an Airport Extreme. Wireless speed test (in the same room as the router) gave 3.13Mbps down, 2.58 up and ping 24ms with the old router. 99.81Mbps down, 23.71 up and ping 19ms. Now Airplay works instantly with all devices. I stream music all over the house simultaneously when I'm home. Like or not, apple devices work best together.

My biggest gripe with Airplay is lag while mirroring or extending the display. If I try to airplay high quality video, there is always noticeable lag. Hoping new hardware will help with this.

What can you do other than buy an expensive router to improve your network?

Minimize interference by getting rid of any unnecessary devices on competing channels. This might be cordless handsets for a landline, baby monitors, etc. If you have those devices, find out what frequency they operate on, and if that's the same as your router, switch frequencies if possible or buy a new one that makes it possible.

Place the router somewhere more central to the locations where it is used most heavily. If it is in a basement or upstairs room, move it closer to the center of the living space.

If you have a lot of neighbors with wireless devices that you can see, you may be out of luck, in which case you'd be best served to run wires to as many devices as possible.
