Clearly it does need some work to be really useful. For instance, when filtering URLs it seems almost required to be able to filter based on "last updated," but this isn't possible with automator. It's sad, because I had a lot of ideas for workflows that i would use all the time, but much of the functionality just isn't there, unless all you're interested in is adding numbers to the end of file names.

This wasn't meant as "How do I download the Tiger image from Bit Torrent" Post.
I do not download Movies, Software or Music from Bit Torrent. I download TV shows which I can currently watch on Satellite. I just use Bit Torrent as a PVR type service. (Time Shifting) There are a lot of Legitimate uses for Bit Torrent outside Pirating.

So my original post is a legitimate use question. Replace Bit Torrent with any other type of URL the issue still remains the same.
The URL Filter in automator is somewhat limiting.

as far as the filtering the URL's for certain extensions. Get specified URLs... enter your URL's.. then Get Link URL's from webpages, filter urls (twice if you have to), then Download URLs. depending on the source (i tried it on one of my favorite sites) and it chokes when the full url isn't there... weird stuff.. like "getcontent/filename" it seems to have an issue...

for example.. if the href="getcontent/filename" it chokes.. it does "http://getcontent/filename" instead of "http://actual.url.com/getcontent/filename"

reporting bug report now...

go make some requests somewhere. automator is totally extensible.. you can write applescript or cocoa based actions for anything that supports applescript.. have at it.

Yeah, Automator is not as robust as I had hoped. I realize it is extensible as another posted mentioned, but I was hoping for more functionality out of the box. There doesn't seem to be anyway to do loops or anything. Maybe I should be using AppleScript, but I didn't think what I wanted to do was all that complicated. I am used to coding and scripting on Windows, but I was hoping that Automator would save me from learning AppleScript. For now, it does not seem that way.

Example:
I would like to rename all of my photos in iPhoto based on the roll name. That way I could just name each roll when importing such as Vacation and the images would then get named Vacation1, Vacation2, etc. I use the Find iPhoto items to get a set of photos but I cannot set any of the metadata on them.
