Why is Big Sur so ugly?

Yes I use Darktable on Ubuntu instead of Lightroom that is a progress :)

which user's perspective? i mean, are you speaking for yourself, or are you endeavoring to speak for everyone?

it is up to the app developer to keep up with new OSes, not apple's job to hold back their tech to accomodate older apps. hence, the developer betas, etc.

1. paragraph - don't troll.

2. paragraph: there are different use cases, sometimes it is not so simple. Adapting of old apps costs money and this cost is in the end transferred to users. And actually it is the MacOS that is hardest of all oses to work with. With Windows you can install it on a virtual Machine if you badly need some Win95 app noone will update. With Linux - same story. With Mac this IS possible. Naturally Apple has the right to do it. And it is right of the user to not to support this policy by de-Appling.

Naturally "normal users" do not care about these things, as they mainly use a web browser. And this makes sense, as they seem to be the new target group for these machines (unlike graphics, video professionals, scientists, programmers, web design people).

not sure what you mean by 'paragraph', and 'don't troll'. am making my point, same as you. and again, not sure you were appointed spokesperson for 'normal users'... what is a 'normal user' anyway? we all have different apps, needs...

anyway, will let this go, since we're just going back and forth. on to better things!

paragraph: a distinct section of a piece of writing, usually dealing with a single theme and indicated by a new line, indentation, or numbering.

normal user: not a pro user

i know what a paragraph is, just not getting your reference... at all. and i know what a 'normal user' is, but again, not understanding how you are able to speak for all 'normal users'.

words have no value if they're meaning isn't clear. and saying something doesn't automatically make it valid.

you have your point-of-view, i have mine; everyone, in fact, has a point-of-view. i see no 'trolling' here, not sure why you do... but respect your right, to your opinion.
 
Well I would very much like to see this threat die, because everybody said what was on their minds and now we're in an infinite circle.

So I'd like to say my opinion which is.. MacOS Big Sur and Monterey sucks hard, but it's so much better than Windows, so I'm using it. That's basically my thought behind it all. I hope the majority here can agree with me on this.

on this particular forum you might get a majority who agree with you; in the larger world... i doubt it. but what difference does it make? apple does what it likes, and likes what it does. lots of people update their OSes, and get on with it. only in places like these forums do people rant... endlessly, about things not being the way they think it should be.

makes for, if nothing else, lively discussion.

So your saying, that the larger world would agree Windows is better than Mac? And if so, you don't even think that's true, right? Why would you even use Mac?

nice try. you never said anything about 'windows being better than the mac', you said the opposite. read your own post more carefully.

i don't think either OS sucks, plus, i can't comment on whether they're better than windows (which i've never really used).

That's right I said it. You said that people here would agree with me, but in general you doubt it. Which you basically said that you think Mac is not regarded as the better OS. I really don't see what are you meaning with this. Maybe you didn't read my post carefully.

now i'm lost. you said: "MacOS Big Sur and Monterey sucks hard, but it's so much better than Windows, so I'm using it." i don't think the mac OSes suck at all, and have no idea if they're better than windows, which i don't use. simple.
 
I don't see Big Sur as being ugly. It just looks like a continuous progression of Aqua, with stylistic changes to make it more in line with how a flat-is UI is thought to be the modern "thing".

Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.

Of course it will be. Just as we all knew, this next version looks just as horrifying and cheap as the current one.

And what the hell is it with the versioning scheme? Let's get excited for MacOS 88! Due in about 16 months.

or, "it looks at least as good and in some ways better". but, of course, there are those 6 people on this thread who will bring their pain to the monterey forum (and the ones that later follow that), with the never-ending question: "why can't things be the way I want them to be?"...

Hello friends.

I just wanted to report back and let you know how things are progressing.

There has been zero progress. Big Sur still doesn't look good at all, and the next release looks just as bad with no new interesting reason to pay any attention to it.

As the summer winds down and temperatures continue to drop, so does my interest in Macbooks and the future of Apple. I never cared about phones to begin with.

The more I try to use my iPad pro 12.9 to do "laptop things" on it, the more I am completely OK with Big Sur. The typical iPad app is just so inefficient with all the wasted space, offscreen tools/actions, and borderless (and often confusing) scroll-heavy layouts that it's more frustrating than anything else to try to do anything productive on the iPad, especially when compared to the desktop/laptop interface of the "same" app.

I know this thread is about Big Sur, but one way to appreciate it more is to try to be productive on a beautiful 12.9" screen and compare it to the app on Big Sur....iPadOS should be shortened to iPOS.

you must be right, because no one, I mean no one buys apple products. You want ugly? Have you seen Windows?

Windows 11 is halfway to the MacOS aesthetic.

Combine that with a desktop PC, and you have all the gaming/graphic/processing performance you ever want - Not to mention unlimited upgradeability -

Been beta testing it for months. Thing is insanely stable too

Big Sur is a big toy and not a professional OS. Sorry, disagree with me if you want. But it is and bricks systems each time an update comes out ! I stopped upgrading Mac OS because it’s not worth it anymore due the fact each year a new one comes out - Pathetic
