Why is capitalizing the letter I a job for Auto-Correction?

...when there's a perfectly good "Auto-Capitalization" switch right next to it? Auto-correct is famously annoying, while using capital letters is incredibly common. So I'd rather just use the latter. Is there no workaround for this?

Auto-correct capitalizes "i" because it is fixing improper grammar. Auto-capitalization just capitalizes the first letter of your new sentence. As far as I know the only way to stop it is to turn off auto-correct.

When writing in English, not including math formulas for instance, how often do you write "i" where "I" would not be preferable?

If you are one of the idiots that spell iPhone, i phone, it would be annoying.

How often do you honestly use a lower case "i"? It's there to make typing quicker and easier for everyone while at least keeping it grammatically correct.
