I have an iPad Air 2 (64GB) which along with my iPhone is set to store photos to the cloud.

Just recently it gave me a warning idicating that my HD was nearly full. When I checked I can see that my photos folder is at 32GB yet my iPhone is using only 782mb for the same amount of photos.

I checked the settings against each other and they are exactly the same yet my iPad is storing 32GB of pictures.

The Apple ID is the same on both devices.

Can anyone help determine what is wrong please?

Settings on my iPad Are:

iCloud Photo Library - On
Optimise iPad Storage - On
Upload to My Photo Stream - On
Upload Burst Photos - On
iCloud Photo Sharing - On

That optimise storage option is not working properly. Try turning it off, then turn iCloud off, then restart the device while connected to WiFi. Then turn iCloud back on and finally optimise storage on. Hopefully this will work.

Thanks for your replies.

I don't know what's going on with this damn thing.

My iPad photo storage was showing 34GB yet I never use it to take photos, all my photos are taken via my iPhone and all the photos I see on the iPad are via the cloud.

After following the above suggestions the photo storage reduced to about 27GB and was showing in the photos app that it was updating 2000+ items. The actual number never reduced so after a while I rebooted the iPad and the figure changed to show updating 23 items.

When I checked my iPad storage it showed Photos consuming 34Gb of storage.

To add to this Photos is no longer showing all of my pictures in the cloud, over a month of pictures are missing.

In contrast my iPhone is showing everything and consuming 783mb of storage!!

All this seems to have happened since IOS 11

Any further suggestions please?

Ove the last couple of days I have left my iPad connected to power and I noticed this morning that the issues I reported appear to have corrected themselves.

My photos from other devices are now showing on my iPad and the amount of storage it is showing is about 780MB instead of 34GB.

Following the advice and suggestions provided appears to have rectified the situation.

Thank you.
