I agree but it makes me wonder how we will know we went into power saving mode. I would assume the watch gives us one last emergency warning that it is going into power saving time only mode. At that time I would start watching the phone for notifications again.

This is what I'm hoping for too. That it will be obvious, somehow, that the watch is in power saving mode. I too love the idea the phone will be silent and that all notifications will go to the watch...thus my concern that the watch notifications need to be "trustworthy".

I understand we'd all like the battery of the watch to be better.... but why is this a HUGE issue?

If the battery gets too low, only the time will display - you won't get notifications, or anything else..... but you WILL have the iPhone with you! You'll still get all those on your iPhone.

You won't really be missing anything, you'll just go back to the inconvenience of using your phone again.

Yes, it will be annoying, but it's not like you're stuck with nothing.

I like that it sounds like if we have the watch on that there will be no phone notifications. I know from the pebble it is annoying to get them on both. I can only imagine this could be a setting.

I also like that it looks like emails read on the watch are marked as read on the phone. The online demo showed that you can force touch an email to mark as unread so it is easy to see an opened and read email is handled. Love it.

This is what I call "babysitting" the watch. We also have to bring charger for that if we have to go out of town for few days, then we afraid about the apps, about the batt cycles, etc. It couldn't just wear and forget, like conventional watch. Is it worthy with the price and those additional hassles?

If that were the case, then it would be a no-buy for me.

But frankly, if I can charge it once a day and it lasts through average use of that day (not being antsy over battery life), then it is a nonissue. It sounds like that will be that case. Being upset over the fact that I have to take a charger with me if I travel for an extended time is a bit much, though.

Would it be a huge issue of your phone died during the day? I for one would not like to go back to a time where I have to charge my devices during the day, not a good experience.

Seems that way.

Poor comparison; in this case the phone wouldn't die - it'd just resort to only making phone calls.

I have a $3,000 tag that I bought because it looks amazing and it is 100% mechanical. On the down side this means putting it to sleep in a watch winder every night. If I dont use it for more than 24hr it dies. More than a few times I've looked at my wrist only to see a very expensive watch telling me the wrong time, and forget about setting the date!

Then I realized it doesn't matter. I only wear a watch because its basically the only acceptable form of male jewelry beyond a wedding ring. I was an early backer for the pebble and had one of the first ones. I would wear the pebble to work during the weekday and the Tag on the weekends. The apple watch, for me, is the perfect blend of style and functionality in a watch. Who cares if it doesn't make it more than a day, I'm already charging my phone, laptop, and Tag every day anyway.

It is a nice bonus that I dont have to set the time on the Apple watch all the time though!

Apple would like that too but with today's battery chemistry and accepable watch /thickness/sizes, they had to use software to conserve power. Even this will not be enough for some.

I charge my phone every night so I'll just charge the watch at the same time.

I already bring 2 chargers and 3 cables if going out of town even overnight. One more cable is not going to change my life.

I'd like to use an app similar to sleep cycle but for the watch. My ideal (not so realistic, but not completely ridiculous) Apple Watch would be able to make it through the day and night with enough battery for peace of mind and be able to charge in the 45 minutes I'm getting ready in the mornings. As it is, it looks like I'll need to find time in the evenings to charge it.

It's no more of a big deal than when the iPhone goes dead.

.....Which is a HUGE freaking deal :D

I'll just try to avoid both going dead. Or, avoid the phone going dead at least. (its making me a bit dizzy)

I'm sure there will be a warning when it's going into power saving mode. And a buzzing coming from your phone but no feedback from your watch might be a good indicator as well. ;)

I agree, the power save 72 hour watch-only mode swung it for me - once it enters that mode, it does just as much as my current watch does, so long as I charge it within a few days. That's totally fine with me. Do the competitors also offer this functionality?

Can you initiate this watch-only like state at any time? And if you switched it on at 100%, how long would it last then?

Just wondering.

The next watch and phone should be designed so that the watch wirelessly steals power from the phone when it's low. :D

It can suck energy directly from the wrist
The human body will become a giant battery for appliances, like they predicted in Matrix
