Why is it that neither my Health app nor my Fitness app reflect Steps or Distance walked on my iPhone 13 Pro Max?

Is it because I don't have an Apple Watch?

Or could it be because I have to wait until my iPhone 14 Pro Max arrives?

I walked plenty today.

The only thing that apparently was reflected accurately was the Time in Bed this morning on my Health app.

It can't be Background App Refresh because neither of those apps is even listed under Background App Refresh.
