I see plenty of white iPhone4 and 4S's along with white iPhone5's, but not the white 3GS.
When a 3GS is seen it seems to always be black.

Did Apple make so many fewer white versions of this model? Anyone here use a white iPhone 3GS and agree with me?

I know the white iPhone 3G was sold for a very short period of time, wasn't aware the 3GS went through the same limited timeframe.

Thanks.

Why is it the white iPhone 3GS is rare out in public?

There was not a white 3G, the white was only released with the 3GS and they didnt make as many as the black. I must have traveled all over looking for the white 3GS when it was just released and could not find it. I had to settle on the Black one.

Yes there was I have one,the white iPhone 3G was available only on the 16GB models though.

because it was ugly and was a dirt magnet. also many shops didn't carry them.

Also, there was a problem with the plastic in some of them - hairline cracks would form throughout the phone.

I've owned several 3GS iPhones over the years and every one of them have had cracks. Apple has always had issues with quality over the years from MacBooks to iPhones.

Instead of starting another thread, I'll ask here.
Are there any retailers that are still selling the 3GS (NIB)?

Not unless it's unsold stock from September 2012, which is highly unlikely. Probably the only NIB 3GS boxes out there are int he hands of collectors, and they're unlikely to sell for a reasonable price.

I had one that developed cracks - I called Apple and received a replacement that served me well for the entirety of its life.

Every iPhone that I have owned starting with the 3G was white. I owned several 3Gs at one time and several 3GSs at one time, all were white except for one 8GB black 3GS that I sold on this forum.

I remember the 3G/3GS cracking problem. It was pretty hard to keep yours from getting cracked. I babied my 3G but after about a year it still somehow got a small crack down there.

You see the black one more because after the iPhone 4 came out all other models of the 3GS were discontinued except the 8GB black version and it remained in production until the iPhone 5 launch last year.
