I don't have any themes installed, and the only SB i have are 5-icon dock and SBSettings. It's telling me my available memory is only 17 MB :(

I have push turned off and everything but it's still chugging...is there a fix?

My guess is its the dock. Try uninstalling it and see if it helps.

When you say memory free-what command are you using? I only know how to check free "disk" space.

SBSettings blows bossprefs out of the waters.

    In what ways?

I like the fact that I can toggle just about anything with boss prefs-does SBS let you power cycle, re spring, etc.? All that stuff boss prefs does?

I originally was going to agree with you but I had no way to benchmark it. Maybe I will get SBS and see how much free memory I have.

Programs seem to crash frequently (like textfree and Cydia). But I need the unlock so I am dealing with it.

How much free memory did you have before 3.0?

Yeah, my free memory stays within the 15-33MB range. It used to be around 52 free after a respring a few months back, but in the time leading up to 3.0 (and now, after) my phone lags quite a bit even though I did a full restore.

It totally does. It's WAY more of a resource hog than BossPrefs. :)

Try opening the processes in SBSettings and killing Safari, it's a real hog. My SBSettings shows 47 MB memory after a respring, and that's with nothing turned off, a fairly simple theme, fiverows, fivecolumns, and SBSettings. After using the phone for a while, it hovers around 15-30 but closing any apps I'm using and killing safari usually brings it back up to over 40 megs.

I've been really impressed with the speed of everything in 3.0. I assumed an OS upgrade with new features would run slow, but mine doesn't lag at all. It may be because I reset the phone before upgrading and started fresh with 3.0.

    I second the question-please detail :)

Also, another question, if I disable push for email, will that disable ALL push? I need push for textfree, but really don't need it for email.

Thanks to those in the know!

Ok, what do you both want to know how to do? Respring? Check processes? I'm confused. :)

As for Push, yes, if you change the global option, it will disable all Push. Instead, enable Push but change the settings for your email accounts from Push to Fetch. :)

If you want to know how to kill the processes such as safari & Mail:

Install SBSettings, invoke the drop-down (swipe accross the menu bar), hit the 'Processes' button and close the offending app.

Push - This setting is for Push EMAIL only. Don't confuse it with Push Notifications for other apps.

    Thanks for the info!

As for what I asking for-how do I kill specific applications that are still running (like Safari, according to a post up a few)? So I guess I need SB settings, I have been using BossPrewf-just because I know HOW to use it :)

    Thanks again!

Think I am getting it now-I just turned email to fetch but left push on.

Should I uninstall BossPref before installing SBS?

I just jailbroke my iPhone yesterday with 3.0. I noticed that it was really laggy too then I went to Cydia and updated it. Then everything went back to normal.

Mine was very laggy too after the jailbreak in 3.0. Then i made a full restore and it was fast again, but then, after jailbreaking it, everthing was very slow again. it really pissed me off so i kicked the JB...

    Any ideas???

I went through the same thing with each firmware version on the 3G since last summer. I must've jailbroken and then restored my phone a week (or less) later no less than a dozen times in the past year. The massive slowdowns caused by jailbreaking/additional background processes like MobileSubstrate/whatever were HIGHLY annoying.

I'm really hoping my new 3GS finally has the horsepower to JB without slowing to a snail's pace.
