In the middle of several books.
Do you have a screen protector or case on the phone? If so, try taking the case off and see if you can replicate the clicking noise. If you don’t use a case etc. you should contact Apple, as that is definitely not normal behavior.

I only have a screen protector. i didn't get a case yet. It's challenging to describe the problem. It's not really a click - its more of something inside of the phone on the lower left corner - shifting or moving when I tap on something.....for instance, if I am on instagram and and tap a "like" the movement in the phone happens. I don't want to say a bang.....because the phone is so slim and there isn't a noise - it's a movement, like a jogging of something I have never experienced this before, so it's challenging to describe.

I had a screen protector once that didn't lie completely flat at one edge. It would sort of click whenever I pressed something on that spot.

i Wonder: wouldn't it be hapyic feedback, simply? To check, you may turn OFF "system haptics" in Settings /Sounds & Haptics.

Great it was that! I wondered a bit, but being used to "machines" I knew it was some sort of setting. I thought I didn't like this haptic feedback (the clicks) but actually I like them, they help my brain confirm things that happen without relying on my eyes.

To learn more, Google/Bing/Ecosia etc.. are your friend. Typing "how to close apps on iOS 14" for example. Specifying iOS 14 is useful.
