Can anyone explain why my Apple TV keeps hogging all my bandwidth, yet fails to download a single standard def movie?

Can anyone please explain why the Apple TV uses all my bandwidth without downloading any of the rented movies from the iTunes Store? Irrespective of requesting "download now to watch later" option?

Can you please expand a bit on your set up? How's the :apple:TV connected? Is this new? Has it always been this way? Did anything change?

How do you know it's hogging your bandwidth? How much bandwidth do you have?

I have only 8 gb until after 0200 until 0700 when I'm unrestricted. ATV is wirelessly connected to the router & HDMI cable into 60 inch smart LG. Have been trying to download 4 rented from iTunes 1 at a time for 3 days only in free zone time. But no bandwidth left.cannot find any other devices paired or connected!

not really sure what you are trying to say, but maybe you will find relevance in what i have to say. when you say download, do you mean onto the ATV? if you rent a movie on the ATV is will save itself on the ATV's internal memory, which is only 8GB, so you won't be able to download 4 movies in HD onto the ATV to play at a later time.

also, how do you only have 8GB during the day? are you just pro-rating yourself 8gb for 250 a month?

ATV and apologies for not responding sooner!

I was not attempting a simultaneous download of all four rented movies. I tried to download one at a time, whichever movie I tried for over 4 hours it was not successful. The service provider came to inspect the system and found that the LNB on the dish was faulty. Could the faulty LNB have claimed all the bandwidth without downloading a single movie.

I didnt think ATV truely downloads and stores movies like you expect it to. It streams and can maybe preload at most 1 movie since it uses flash memory only.

Changed modem and still slow

Changed router from Asus N10 to Airport Express, wired it into Atv via the ethernet cable. Have satellite downlink @ 4mbps.
Now I am unable to stream 55sec utube or access Netflix and some radio stations, says Netflix not available in your location (ATV-ui170) Previously on Asus all channels available! Where did I go wrong?

Sounds like an issue with your ISP or cable modem. What does speedtest.net say?

What sort of crappy ISP offers only 8GB before throttling anyway.

PS try turning SD on and HD off in the rentals section of your ATV.

Looks like he has satellite internet.

Still taking 11 min plus for 55 sec utube clip

Yes have only satellite downlink out here in the stix, plus always running on 3 phase modified sine wave Perkins generators. Very costly @ US$55.00 per gb for 15 gb over 30 days but unrestricted and free after 0200 until 0700. Netflix says not available in your location (ATV ui170) yet with Asus n10 router did not have issues! Where am I going haywire?

Rent your iTunes movies during the free hours on a PC / Mac running iTunes with the same apple ID as your AppleTV.
