I've noticed the display on my MBA is much brighter when I am running in Windows XP SP3 bootcamp.

Big difference with OS X. Did anyone notice the same?

    Why could this be?

I've tried checking settings, calibration and performance seem to be right.

Your MacBook Air has an ambient light sensor and OS X will adjust the display brightness based on the brightness of the room. The software to do this is only included in OS X, and so the display brightness will not be automatically adjusted when running Windows. The display most likely defaults to full brightness unless told to do otherwise.

If you want to try disabling that, the setting is under Displays and is a checkbox next to "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes".

I should have mentioned earlier: I have disabled that already.

its just that the Boot Camp drivers for the display brightness arent as good as the drivers for OS X (understanfable). if you turn it down one notch from full brightness its too dim to use apps or play games. thats my experience.

I'm not using the bootcamp drivers, I'm using the latest Intel drivers under XP.

In my opinion, the display is much brighter in a good way! The display looks better in XP than in OS X. White is real white. Even when I'm sitting outside in the sunshine.

The BootCamp drivers ARE intel drivers. Boot Camp is nothing more then a tool. You're still using Intel Graphics drivers like any other computer that has an Intel video card.

I know. I'll try to explain it again:
I am not using the drivers that are supplied with bootcamp. Apple supplies OLD Intel drivers, i use the LATEST Intel drivers.
