I just received confirmation from FedEx that my MacBook shipped from Shanghai, China. Why in the world is it shipping straight from China? I "custom configured" it, but all I got was a USB modem, which isn't really much of a CTO. I'm somewhat worried now...

yea but if hes in the states wouldn't it come from a apple warehouse or w.e cause if i order mine it comes from Ontario from an apple store i think (what it says on the packaging) ...?

Uhhh...

Yeah...comparing two countries seems right.

Macs never ship from Apple stores here. The online and the retail departments are separate. Most Macs are shipped from China, which is where they are built.

Sorry to break it to you...

So is it coming hot off the press or did they just pull it down from some warehouse shelf? Not that it really matters I don't guess.

It just scared me when I saw a foreign country listed as where it was coming from. I'm used to seeing stuff that I order come from the U.S. I already knew that most were made in China. I was just afraid that it was going to be defective or something terrible like that.

why would it be defective if shipped from china?!:confused::confused:

most of what you buy is already made there. and shipped form there at one point or another. all the QC is done there before its packaged so its not like there'd be another step done in the US to make it 'okay' or anything. its fine.

Every Apple product I've bought the last few years (trust me, a lot of products) have all come from China...Even the iPod I bought last year!

No worries at all...

They are all made in China.

Well thanks for the information. I was just skeptical to see it coming from China instead of a warehouse already in the U.S. Not that it really matters, because they all come from China for the most part anyways.

What the hell are your worried about? Don't you listen to the song in WWDC2008? It's a small world anyway.

It's so funny to hear people's shock and amazement when they find out that their cherished Apple products aren't UPS'd to them from Cupertino, CA. Every Apple product clearly says "Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China".

I don't think you quite understand... I KNOW that Apple products are assembled in China. I just found it odd that my MacBook was coming straight to China to my doorstep.

I think I would have been tipped off that it was coming from China when I ordered it, and they said "Okay, 15 minute!"...

I understand your confusion, but there is nothing out of the ordinary here, when I ordered my MacBook, it shipped from Shanghai, in fact, if it actually shipped from inside the US then it would have seemed out of the ordinary. And it is considered BTO even if there are no changes to the computer itself. And after I had a problem with my MacBook, the advice that I can give is to avoid making any changes that would consider it to be BTO at all costs, it makes returning/exchanging it a royal pain in the ass.

Not to bust any bubbles but my Macbook I bought 3 weeks ago came from RANCHO CORDOVA, CA

Same. I bought my MacBook in April and it came from California. It was shipped to California of course from China. I had it overnighted to me and got it by 2PM the next day. Not sure if the next day shipping means anything either.

Why???? Just because a few pets died, or lead is used in kids painted toys?
Love it if we could quit using CHINA!:(
