Got the 2016 Touch bar 13".

It randomly gets really hot in the middle by the keyboard and a lot underneath.
I'm not putting it under any strain at all

Wth?

May feel hot as the aluminium displaces heat. But the internal components are likely running well within thermal constraints.

Regardless, if you provide definitive temperatures of the components then this should help advise if it's running too hot.

Running too hot for themselves and running too hot for you are different things. Show some temp readings. :)

If its brand new its probably spotlight indexing all your files. The time this takes also depends on how much stuff you loaded onto it immediately like music and photos. It took a couple hours for this process to complete for me without many photos and only a few GB of music.
