Why is my nMP so hot when in sleep?

It basically seems to fan up a steady stream of fairly warm air when in sleep mode.

Are you sure that it is in fact in sleep mode? Mine goes very cool and with noticeable air coming form the top when it's in sleep mode. If the display is simply asleep, then the computer is still running and you will indeed get some warm air coming out.
