Hey Everyone. I have been using Safari for years. I don't really want to change away as I like how it syncs across my devices, but it's becoming such a headache. I get constant alerts that websites are using lots of resources and sites such as Gizmodo are nearly unusable to click through articles.

I switch to Firefox and things work flawlessly. I'm on a 14" Pro so horsepower isn't the issue. I have only two extensions. Grammarly and PIPViewer to allow for videos to do pip if the site doesn't support it.

Any suggestions or does Safari jus suck this bad now?

I am having an issue currently with Safari not wanting to load pages. It will, eventually, but it takes a really long time. If you dont want to use another browser, try Safari Technology Preview. It works fine for me versus my regular Safari app which is broken at the moment. I will try it again after the next update.

It's probably those sites that suck because they're running a bazillion pieces of JavaScript in ads and tracking. Get an adblocker extension - I recommend Wipr from the Mac App Store.

Doesn't seem to help and Firefox works fast with no extensions.

In addition to trying Safari Technology Preview, clearing your browsing history and website data might also help improve performance. Additionally, keeping your Safari and macOS/iOS versions up-to-date can sometimes resolve compatibility problems. Hope this helps!
Issue here is iCloud. When you clear history, it does it for all devices if you have sync on which I do. None of my other devices have an issue so not going to clear anything. Good idea though.

Sorry to be pedantic but keeping your OS up to date has nothing to do with correctly loading a web page on a browser.

I too am experiencing Safari slowdowns but only on particular sites and only some times. While I can't definitively prove it, it seems to me that a combination of iCloud private relay which I use along with Safari Profiles might be causing problems.

I'm thinking because of the way Safari is trying to protect our privacy (mask our identities) that some websites are not loading or not loading as fast when it isn't able to track what it needs? Is that possible?

I've noticed a slowdown as well and I was pretty annoyed.
I guess I discovered the source of my issue after trying 10000 different combinations
Safari slows down when my iPad is connected to my Mac. Same with the iPhone.
If I unplug my devices Safari goes back to its usual speed.
Didn't happen before last updates to Safari or Ventura
What has changed?!

Oh that's an interesting discovery. I think none of my slowdowns are related to iPad or iPhone connections, unless this includes WiFi connected iPad in the Finder. Maybe I should double check on that and see if it helps.

Update: So it doesn't seem that having iPad connected to Mac's Finder creates any slowdown in Safari. I was experiencing Safari slowdown when my iPad wasn't connected to the Finder (wasn't connected either via WiFi or cable).

I suspect it has something to do with Private Relay, but I could be wrong. But this has made Safari not my top choice to use for work, which is unfortunate.

I figured out that when my devices are connected to the Apple Studio display,
then Safari and internet slow terribly down, other browser slow as well.
If they are connected directly to the MacStudio it still slows but less.
I have Private Relay as well but it doesn't affect the speed

Everybody seems to have the same issue: that safari is slow and not performing as it should. Considering that Safari is built for the Mac, you would think it would be faster. Chrome scores higher on benchmark tests consistently every single time for me. Even opening multiple tabs on Safari consumes excessive memory and drains battery life. Additionally, plugins that are made on Google are just more optimized for Chrome. Apple keychain doesn't even work for chrome, and the extension on chrome to enable keychain is just lame and defeats the purpose of using a keychain in the beginning. I just hope that this safari issue gets fixed.

My device is a Macbook air m2 512gb memry

True but OS updates for Apple usually fixes the problems with the browsers some of the time. The OS updates usually come with app updates, and etc.
It's also true that we already had several Safari.app single update, not included with the OS
