I have a 5, and to be honest I think I like the 5C more.

Something about it just feels fresh and nice. I really want a Blue 5C but i'm not wasting a 2 year upgrade on one.

Oh well.

Same here. The blue 5c seems to be everywhere I look, but it'll be another year before I can even think of purchasing one - and by then Apple is expected to drop their plastic models TT___TT

Answering OP's question, I would say it's just Apple's approach reflected over the plastic surface. Industry in general recur to plastic when they want to lower prices - and that's the case with Apple too. However, Apple cares so much more about small details than the competition that anything 'feels' better, and we can see this extra work reflected in the 5c's casing. It looks much too awesome to be plastic, especially when compared with other plastic phones.

Too bad Apple will discontinue this lineup... I was really looking forward to see a TouchID on a blue iPhone :(

Why is the 5c so awesome?

Why is the 5c so awesome?

Hmmm…Why is the 5c so awesome?

Well.

- It continues to prove that plastic is cheaper in price than aluminum
- It means someone bought a 5c and not a 4S(I hate the 4s so this is good)
- It means that my iPhone 5 continues to live in some small way
- The 5c is immediately recognizable so no one has to bother you with questions about what kind of iPhone you have
- It means that non-primary colors (with the exception of white) are reserved for the flagship iPhone
- It means that iPhone 5 and 5s owners can appreciate their 5 and 5s more

Yeah, that's just off the top of my head. There's probably more.

It's not confirmed that this is happening...

For instance I read an article on Parently Apple that Apple is going to put a new processor in the next "5c..." If this phone was getting discontinued why would there be rumors of a new processor?? It makes not sense.

Also, the 5c with no case on it is one of the best feeling iPhones in hand. I however keep a case on mine, but wish I could go without one...

I've always liked the "Think Different" of Apple, like when I saw people going into the store in 2001 looking for a Wintel box, and seeing and saying how cool the "Flower Power" and "Dalmation" iMacs were. They probably didn't buy one but I bet you that they remember them really well.

I think that the 5C's are just as memorable.

My friends got one a month ago after having an Android one for 2 years (they went from a iPhone 3G back then and Verizon didn't have the iPhone yet) and they love it - not to mention being able to download their apps from before.

I just got a white one yesterday - LOVE IT! I went from a white 3GS I got from an awesome member here and lasted for quite some time, so it is quite an upgrade. Got an inexpensive Otterbox-like case for it.

I also seem to now have the iWork apps and can download them back to my old iPad2.

It was especially nice to not have to hack it for T-Mobile.... ;)

I can see the sales of 5C's pick up when the price unlocked goes for $399...

5C with a rounded shape feels more natural and comfortable to hold. I checked out both 5c and 5s before getting the later one. Apple should have made color matching front, even ipods have white front which looks nice. With the price difference of only $100 between 5c and 5s, the decision was straightforward. Apple should either offer 5c cheaper to drive the demand at the lower end or plastic with 5s internals for $100 less, but plastic with last year's tech does not justify this small price difference.

My biggest issue with the 5c is that it just looks cheap :| I guess I'm insecure when it comes to my iPhones

Lol your posts always amuse me. However personally I don't mind using the outdated joke for another few months. As long as it keeps me off of that design flawed iphone 5/5s then I'm great and come September I'll have a beautiful iphone 6!

At that time you and I may agree on things lol
Is September the supposed release date on the 6?

I'm not talking the specs or anything, I'm talking about the industrial design, specifically the plastics and colors that the iPhone is made of!

For some reason, this phone doesn't feel like any other plastic I've touched! It's welcoming and doesn't feel cheap!

It's plastic. It looks like plastic and feels like plastic. Apple doesn't have magic plastic. The 5C is just plain old terrible colored plastic.

Some like it... Some don't. Personally I wish they'd went along the lines of the iPod touch but oh well they didn't and it's not that bad...

The polycarbonate is thicker then Samsungs

I have a 5S, and today my friend showed me his green 5c.

I just don't get it. Why does the plastic feel/look so much cooler than other plastic phones???

It has an entire sheet of metal and metal framing under the plastic so it feels a lot more premium

Plus the glossiness and colors make it more attractive
