It's not a flaw to me. It's just an opinion you have. Don't like it? Change it! Why should everyone have to have a phone the way you think it should be. Some people like all those notifications.

for a new user, it's great to see every type of notification so that they see what forms ios is able to do. If this wasn't the default, the user may never learn that these are even an option. I think it makes much more sense to keep all on as default. Why would apple pick and choose what notifications are more important for you? It's fairly easy to turn off the ones that seem annoying anyway.

I hate this, it's almost like your phone is spamming you. Why would anyone want notifications from every single one of their apps to clutter their lock screen, obscuring important and relevant notifications like calls and texts?

The same goes for banner notifications, who wants a bar at the top of their screen for every last notification? Isn't that what notification center is for?

The default should be calls and messages for both lock screen and banner notifications. Having everything show in lock screen is messy and not in keeping with Apple's "clean and simple" philosophy.

You can easily change it.

----------

A flaw in terms of abandoning Apple's minimalist aesthetic and detracting from the efficiency of my user experience, yes. A flaw in the traditional sense of a defect? No, of course not.

Sorry, not trying to whine, was honestly curious why they did this.

Why? Because people usually want notification from apps they installed.
If you want to hide some, you can.

Is this thread for real???

Default IS to only show calls and text messages. Is the phone supposed to know that when you say "OK" to notifications for each app you install, that you really mean "not OK"?
Looks like you started trolling early today.

No, read my previous post on page 1. If you click "no" to push notifications you will not receive the basic badge app. By default this is all it should display for everything but texts and calls, but it displays banner and lock screen notifications as well. It's all or nothing.

Also, I thought we already covered the definition of the word troll?

You are more than welcome to select no, and go to the settings app to set the notifications the way you'd like. It's really not all or nothing, there is a multitude of ways you can change the way you receive notifications.

Its up to the app developer to decide how to configure notifications for there app.

I'm saying most people only want texts and calls in their lock screen, so that should be the default....when you click "yes" for everything else it should just show badges. Simple. And no it's not up to the app developer, all of the default settings when you click yes are the same.

so where are these people? They don't seem to be flocking to your thread to voice there opinion.

when you click "yes" you are telling the application you'd like to receive notifications. If you don't like the way those notifications are presented to you open the settings app and turn all but the badge off.

The way you think it should be setup sounds like a usability nightmare. let's only present a badge when the screen is off and locked. That way the user hears a noise, has to unlock there device and attempt to find an app with a badge on it. Oh wait, most users don't check all there notifications anyway. So now they have to figure out which badge could be new.

The notifications don't bother me so much. Because I can turn them off.

What bothers me is every app asks to notify you. You click no. Then a few hours later you still get a lock screen alert. So you have to go into notifications and check. And it is still set to give you lock screen alerts and sounds. Why? I clicked no. If I answered no I obviously don't want bloody notifications from the thing do I. I didn't click 'no, but okay go on give me lock screen notifications'.

It's entirely pointless having the app ask as your answer of no is just ignored anyway. And you then have to go into notifications and switch off the alerts.

So maybe make no actually mean no notifications.

"Most people?" "Should just show badges. Simple." Really? How many people have you polled? Get this junk out of here, stop pretending you speak for everyone. Not nearly as many people share your opinion as you think, and it's easily customizable if you so wish. What an asinine thread. Simple.

Why would anyone have their phone set to make a sound every time they get a badge? That would be so obnoxious with social media. And why would anyone need an alert from words with friends or the weather channel in their lock screen?

I'm just going by my own experience, I've never seen anyone's lock screen lit up with notifications from eBay and Shazam. Most people turn off all but essential notifications that require immediate attention.

So you just want the badge count to increase when you get a new notification in an app?

I don't think anyone was advocating for receiving notifications from every app they get. I have mine tuned the way I like. Some display banners and on the lock screen, others just banners, while some I just let accumulate in notification center. Yes I do get useful notifications from eBay, if I'm in process of buying or selling something it's nice to get a notification you've received a message, an auction is coming to a close. I spend a lot of time outdoors so occasionally I will setup one of my weather apps to notify of me preciptation or severe weather.

You know smartphone things.

Fair enough, that makes sense.

And if the default was to show no notifications in the lock screen you would be here whining and complaining about that.

Along with the hundreds of other things about his iPhone he doesn't like. :D

Man, you post a thread complaining about EVERY. STUPID. INANE. LITTLE. THING.

I'm thinking you'd find a reason to complain about it.

I have many more threads by him if you'd like to see them.

----------

I guess I just don't see the difficulty in going into the Settings app and adjusting my notifcations for the NC, nor the difficulty in adjusting any settings (if they exist) in the app itself.

But that's just me.

That would require work.

I don't know why you keep saying that, this is the only Apple forum I've posted on.

Then you're lying, TH. You live in the very same location (remember that I have access to this info) and have the same user name while posting the same thread content? Right.

But, whatever. You're MacRumors' problem child now. Have fun.

Why the hell do you look at the ip addresses of random people on a forum? Weirdo.

And I'm far from a "problem child" here.

Not everyone uses social media.

Not everyone has the same settings in their social media (I have badges set to VERY few people whom I care about).

I don't play Words With Friends, but I do know it is turn based, yes? If you are playing a game where the opponent hasn't made a move yet and are waiting for said move, perhaps a notification is useful.

Some folks rely on severe weather warning (Tornados, Hurricanes, Blizzards, etc.) I have my weather app set to alert me for exactly that. I also have a text sent to my phone. Again, these options can be edited either withing the app or on the website (for the texts).

I don't have everything set to alert me, but I maintain that everything is set to on as a default for the new users. If you are an existing user you are likely restoring from a backup of your custom settings. So really, this only effects brand new users. And what better way to showcase the types and frequency of notifications than to leave them all on to prompt the user to turn down if necessary?
